If I Were God

Summary: Have you ever wondered what you would do if you were God? The world is thankful that I'm not. I'll share some reasons why.
If I were God, there would be some changes made. If I were God, matters would be managed differently. Curbstone philosophers have the answers to all of life’s problems. It seems they know just what should be done in every situation. You have all seen these people. They have solutions prefaced with remarks such as: “If I were President…Governor…. General…Pastor…. her husband…his wife…. coach. But if I were suddenly thrown into the throne of all the universe. What would I do? Often, we read the bible, we pray and think on how people react to God and His word, and we do wonder what we would do. Some men have tried to be like God, Hitler, Nero, Nebuchadnezzar, Napoleon, but what would I do, if I were God?
I. I would be Partial
1. James 2:1-4
2. As hard as we may try not to be, we are. It may be concealed to a degree, but not entirely.
3. Will Rogers said, “I never met a man I didn’t like.” I don’t agree with that. I’m not like that.
4. We are partial to loved ones and friends. They have troubles and we take their side.
5. We are partial to America.
6. All of us are partial to important people. We call it showing respect but many times it is partiality.
II. I would Lose My Patience with Men
1. I’ll admit I am not thought of as being a patient man. I am more so than some think, but I do lose my patience.
2. The public is undependable, fickle, changeable. Luther said, “If I were God and the world treated me as they treat God, I would kick the wretched thing to pieces.”
3. I’ll be honest: If men would declare allegiance to me one day and then curse, deny, and forget me the next, it would be too much.
4. After a while they wouldn’t get too far with me. I would think lightly of them when they only called on me when they were in trouble.
III. I would be Changeable
1. James 4:18
2. I try not to be, but I am. To a degree we are all controlled by whims, feelings, circumstances, conditions, surroundings, weather, stress, and many other things.
3. There are times I am generous and others when I am as selfish as Scrooge. Times I want to be kind, and a harsh spirit overwhelms me at other times.
4. I find I just can’t be the same all the time. Sometimes I am sweet. Sometimes I’m not. Sometimes I’m in a good mood and sometimes I’m in a bad mood. Sometimes loving, happy, mad, and not loving.
IV. I would Hold a Grudge.
1. James 5:9
2. When certain people did me personal harm, I fear I would not forget it for a long time.
3. Many times, people do things to us that punctures our pride, and this causes us to hold grudges.
4. We’ve been embarrassed and made to look bad.
5. Romans 12:19-21
6. Hebrews 10:30-31
V. The World Can be Thankful I am not God
1. Things would be in a dreadful mess.
2. It would be good for those I liked and bad for those I didn’t.
VI. Our God is Impartial
1. Romans 2:11, Acts 10:34
2. No human being has preferred access to Him.
3. The lowest man is just as important as the statesman to God.
4. We are all created equal.
5. Israel may be God’s chosen people, but He gave his Son to die for all mankind.
6. 1 Peter 1:17
VII. Our God is Long Suffering
1. 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 15:5
2. Aren’t you glad that God is long suffering. Psalm 103:8-14
3. Lamentations 3:22, reason many are not in Hell.
4. Psalm 103:9, God’s patience does wear out. Proverbs 1
VIII. Our God is Unchangeable
1. Malachi 3:6, James 1:17
2. Always ready to hear sinner’s plea and pray.
3. Always ready to forgive, save, John 6:37, Ephesians 2:6
4. That is the reason that once you are saved, you are always saved. God doesn’t change. Psalm 89:30-34, Ecclesiastes 3:14
