Summary: Though Christians are not immune from challenges of life, our Savior helps us in times of trouble, so we are able to stand undefeated. Praise God.

Song: I have Jesus, I cannot fail, I cannot fail, I cannot fail.

To defeat is to “win a victory over (someone) in a battle or other contest; …” – Google.

As human beings, we all face various kinds of battles in life that want to win a victory over us. Some battles manifest in the form of sickness/ailment, fear/anxiety, church issues, family issues, economic issues/career, relationship issues, addiction, spiritual challenges/struggles in one’s faith, generational struggles, struggle with sin, and so on. We know that these issues could lead to physical, mental, emotional, financial, or even spiritual death.

The psalmist wrote in Psalm 34:19 that, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

A strong believer like Paul acknowledged this issue of human battles when he said in 2 Cor. 4:8-18 that, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—"

So, “I will not be defeated” is a statement of confidence in God.

Regardless of the nature of the battle you are facing as an individual, you need certain elements or machinery to avoid being defeated.

1. Surveillance: (wisdom that comes from the word of God that we read and believe) – Psalm 119:15-16; Psalm 119:105

2. Offensive: Sword, bomb (the word that we speak)

• The word: - Jesus used the word to prevent defeat by the tempter (Satan) – Matthew 4:1-11

• The word you know and confess will prevent defeat - Psalm 62:6

• Training through the word of God and prayers prevents being defeated by the enemy – Psalm 119:133; Psalm 18:33-34; 39-40

3. Defensive: Shield (The whole armor of God) – Ephesians 6:10-18

a. Use Psalm 64 to pray

4. Total trust in God’s help – The psalmist says in Psalm 18:29, “For by You I can run against a troop; by my God I can leap over a wall.”

5. Assurance: 1 John 5:4 says, “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

Prayers

1. I thank God for being my shield and protector.

2. Every sin the devil is using to take advantage of me, I declare myself free of them today, in Jesus’ name. Reuben was the firstborn, according to Genesis 49:3, but lost his birthright because of sin. He was defeated – 1 Chron. 5:1

3. In Jesus’ name, I declare that no weapon formed against me will ever prosper – Isa. 54:17

4. Concerns about death: I shall not die, but live to declare the works of God – Psalm 118:17
