Summary: Have I got a job for you!!

In a world where everyone wants to be number one and the head Hondo or their own Boss, etc, I have decided that I want to be chief. Trying to be number one is far too exhausting and unfulfilling. I mean trying to climb that corporate ladder stepping over someone else’s blood, sweat and tears is just not worth it especially since it is easier to fall off of that ladder than climb it. Trying to be the number one salesman or team year after year just exacts such a great price that it can be destructive to your family, reputation and health. Even if you win something five years in a roll it is more than likely that you will be a loser or at least, perish the thought, second for one or more years later on. Power comes and goes and when people lose power or authority it kills them figuratively and often literally at their own hand. The price is too high and there is not any real bang for the buck unless you count the gunshot to the head.

No, in this age of crazy mad dash for the cheese in the haze, maze and morass of the rat race I have decided that the easier and more rewarding thing to seek is to be chief.

Matt 20:25-28

25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. KJV

Everyone wants to be master so there isn’t much room at the top and the top is a pinpoint on which the master teeters ready to fall at a wrong breath. The door of opportunity is wide open for servant. There is plenty of room at the bottom. In God’s program the way up is down!!!

Luke 14:10-11

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. KJV

In this old world, you will never see me on Larry King or on the NY Times best seller list but that is OK because the only list that matters is the Good and Faithful Servant list Jesus is compiling. Thus I seek to serve and to minister. I will never pastor a church of 5,000 but if I can serve 50 people who will be encouraged to go out and serve 50 or 100 more than maybe I might be considered successful. No matter, for if I do all I can do, I will be an unprofitable servant but still maybe chief. (Luke 17:6-10)

The old anagram is still true. JOY equals Jesus, Others, You. YOJ, YJO or JYO doesn’t get you joy. How’s the rat race treating you? Is being number one all that it was cracked up to be or just heartburn and cardiac moments? Come on down and truly get up in the world. Come experience joy unspeakable and full of glory. Get humble and become chief. Maranatha!
