Summary: True repentance is turning from sin and turning to the Savior.

I HAVE SINNED

Ex 9:27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD [is] righteous, and I and my people [are] wicked.

Jos 7:20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

1Sa 15:24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

2Sa 12:13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

I. SIN IS A PERSONAL MATTER

“I have sinned”

A. WE SHOULD ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY

B. WE SHOULD ASK GOD TO FORGIVE US.

1. Never try to cover them.

Pr 28:13a He that covereth his sins shall not prosper:

2. You need to confess them.

Pr 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

II. SIN CAUSES PLENTY OF MISERY.

A. NO PEACE TO BE FELT

“Isa 48:22 [There is] no peace, saith the LORD, unto thewicked.”

1. No peace with God.

2. No peace with a guilty conscience.

a. Pharaoh could not escape a guilty

conscience

b. The Psalmist could not escape a

guilty conscience.

B. NO PLEASURES TO BE FOUND.

“Isa 57:20 But the wicked [are] like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.”

Job 15:20-24 The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor. A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him. He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword. He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

III. SINNERS PLEADING FOR MERCY

A. THEIR REASONS FOR…

1. Pharaoh and Saul were frightened into a

confession.

2. Achan was forced into a confession.

a. He was caught with the stolen goods.

b. He confessed stealing them.

B. TRUE REASONS FOR

1. Not that you were caught in sin…

2. But that you were convicted of your

sins and truly sorry.
