I HAVE A DEVIL TO FIGHT
Text: Judges 16:1-5
Intro: We all have an enemy who wants to keep us in bondage and or to kill us. This enemy started in the Garden of Eden whit Adam. Because Adam fell into sin we all have to fight this enemy.
Satan will use the thing you love the most to get you. EVE
1. DELILAH WAS SENT TO DESTROY SAMSON. (5)
A) He loved her.
Satan will not attack you with things you don’t care for.
**If sex is not your weakness Satan will not attack you that way.
**If money is not your weakness...
**Power, Anger,
James 1
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
B) Jg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him,
Entice him-pathah, paw-thaw’ (in a sinister way) delude:--allure, deceive, enlarge, entice, flatter, persuade, silly (one).
SHE WAS SENT TO HIM
SHE WAS TO LURE HIM AWAY
C) Why? To see where his great strength was.
2. THE ENEMY WANTED TO PREVAIL AGAINST SAMSON. (5)
Jg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him,
A) If one way doesn’t work Satan will try again.
** He tempted Jesus three different times.
B) They wanted to prevail against Samson
Prevail-yakol, yaw-kole’ a primitive root; to be able, literally or morally any at all (ways), attain, overcome, have power, prevail, still, suffer.
** Satan wants to find out your weakness.
** And when he does he will open all doors against you.
3. THE ENEMY WANTED TO BIND SAMSON.
Jg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him
A) Satan wants to bind all Christians.
Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
**When Satan finds out your weakness he will bind you in that weakness.
LUST- If Satan finds out this is your weakness he will make sure you are tempted every day with it.
ANGER- He will send someone to get on your nerves every day.
Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
4. THE ENEMY WANTED TO AFFLICT SAMSON.
Jg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him:
AFFLICT HIM-`anah, aw-naw’ the idea of looking down or browbeating); to depress literally or figuratively, chasten self, deal hardly with, defile, hurt, ravish, weaken in any wise.
** Every time we fall we get weaker. Look at King David
THIS IS WHAT THE ENEMY WANTS TO DO TO US!
EVERYONE IN THE BUILDING KNOWS THIS ABOUT SATAN.
1Pe 5:8 ¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
WE ALL KNOW THIS VERSE, MOST BY HEART
Lu 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
WE KNOW SATAN IS OUT TO GET US! AMEN!!
BUT MOST OF THE TIME WE DO THE SAME THING SAMSON DID.
5. SAMSON PLAYED WITH THE ENEMY. (7)
A) She came out and asked him where does your strength come from.
Jg 16:6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
THE LIGHT SHOULD HAVE COME ON IN HIS HEAD.
B) But he plays with her. (Just like some of us plays with the Devil)
1. If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
** She tried this and it did not work.
** Like Satan she did not give up.
2. If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
** She tried this but it did not work.
Jg 16:12 Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.
