Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon encourages embracing faith to overcome fear, allowing God's guidance through challenging times, and finding deliverance through trust in Him.
Good morning, friends. We gather here today with open hearts. Ready to receive. Ready to listen. Ready to grow.
Today, let's turn our attention to the book of 2 Kings. Specifically, chapter 6, verse 16. It reads,
"Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
Fear. It's a feeling we all know well. It creeps in, uninvited. It can cloud our vision. It can make us feel small, insignificant. But friends, we are not insignificant. We are not small. We are children of God. We are filled with His love, His light, His power.
Remember the words of William Newton Clarke, "Faith is the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see." Faith. It's our beacon in the darkness. Our guide when we feel lost. Our strength when we feel weak.
We'll talk about faith today. About how it fills the frightened. About how God guides us through the gloom. About deliverance in the depths. We'll talk about these things not because they're easy, but because they're necessary. Because they're real. Because they're part of our walk with God.
Let's bow our heads in prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today with open hearts and open minds. We ask that You fill us with Your love, Your wisdom, Your strength. Help us to understand Your Word. Help us to apply it to our lives. Help us to grow in faith, in hope, in love. We thank You for Your guidance, for Your deliverance, for Your unwavering presence in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let’s get started!
In the midst of our fear, it's easy to feel alone. It's easy to feel like we're standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into an abyss of uncertainty. But we're not alone. We're never alone. God is with us. His love surrounds us. His strength sustains us. His faith fills us.
Fear can be paralyzing: It can make us feel small, insignificant. It can make us doubt our worth, our abilities, our potential. But faith, faith is empowering. It reminds us of our worth. It reminds us of our abilities. It reminds us of our potential. It reminds us that we are children of God, that we are loved, that we are valued, that we are capable of great things.
Faith transforms us: It changes the way we see ourselves. It changes the way we see the world. It changes the way we see our challenges, our struggles, our fears. It gives us a new perspective. It gives us hope. It gives us courage. It gives us strength. It gives us peace.
Faith is not a magic wand: It doesn’t just make our fears disappear. It's not a shield that protects us from all harm. It's not a ticket to a life free of challenges, struggles, or pain. But it is a source of comfort. It is a source of strength. It is a source of hope. It is a source of peace. It is a source of love. It is a source of life. When we're afraid, when we're unsure, when we're lost, faith is our compass. It's our guiding light. It's our lifeline.
A situation that was filled with fear: The king of Aram had surrounded the city of Dothan, where the prophet Elisha was staying. Elisha's servant was terrified. He saw the enemy's horses and chariots and thought they were doomed. But Elisha saw something else. He saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire. He saw God's army, ready to protect them. He saw hope in the midst of fear. He saw faith in the midst of uncertainty.
Elisha's servant: He was looking at the situation through the lens of fear. He saw the enemy's strength. He saw their numbers. He saw their weapons. He saw their determination. He saw their power. But Elisha was looking at the situation through the lens of faith. He saw God's strength. He saw His numbers. He saw His weapons. He saw His determination. He saw His power.
Faith doesn't just change the way we see our challenges: It changes the way we respond to them. When we're faced with a challenge, we can respond with fear, or we can respond with faith. We can see the enemy's strength, or we can see God's strength. We can see the enemy's numbers, or we can see God's numbers. We can see the enemy's weapons, or we can see God's weapons. We can see the enemy's determination, or we can see God's determination. We can see the enemy's power, or we can see God's power.
When we're faced with a challenge: We can respond with fear, or we can respond with faith.
Easy to feel alone: It's easy to feel like we're standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into an abyss of uncertainty. But we're not alone. We're never alone. God is with us. His love surrounds us. His strength sustains us. His faith fills us. When we're frightened, when we're unsure, when we're lost, faith is our compass. It's our guiding light. It's our lifeline.
