"I Believe That Jesus Christ Is The Son of God"
Text: 1st John 4:14-15
"And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent
the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of
God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God."
Introduction-
Doctrine, to me, has never been boring, or un-
interesting. We live what we believe, and what
we believe determines who we are, and where we
are going. One of the most crucial doctrines of
the Christian faith is the doctrine of the diety
of Jesus Christ. It is here that many cults leave
the faith, and many false ideas are promoted. If
Jesus Christ is not who He claimed to be, then we
are hopelessly lost and condemned. In this messa-
ge, I want to examine some of the main proclaimat-
ons of the Word of God concerning the person of
Christ.
I. First of all, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST ETER-
NALLY CO-EXISTED WITH GOD THE FATHER IN THE FURTHER-
IST REACHES OF ETERNITY.
John 1:1 declares-"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
Isaiah 9:6-"For unto us a child is born, unto us a
son is given; and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father,
the Prince of Peace."
John 17:5-"And now, O Father, glorify thou me with
thine own self with the glory which I had with thee
before the world was."
John 8:58-"Jesus said unto them, Verily , verily,
I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."
Colossians 1:16-"For by him were all things created
that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or domin-
ions, or principalities, or powers: all things
were created by him, and for him."
Our Lord Jesus Christ has always existed with God
the Father. He was not a created being, but Co-
existent, and Co-Eternal with God the Father.
II.Secondly, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN OF
A VIRGIN.
There have been other miraculous births in the
Scriptures, such as John the Baptist, and Isaac in
the Old Testament, but never has there ever been,
nor will there ever be, a birth quite as unique and
special as the virgin birth of the Son of God.
Matthew 1:21-23
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt
call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people
from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet say-
ing,
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall
bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us."
If the virgin birth be proven false, then all else
we have heard about Jesus is suspect; but, thank
God, He is who he is, the only-begotten Son of
God."
III.Thirdly, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST LIVED A SIN-
LESS LIFE.
1st John 3:5-"And ye know that he was manifested
to take away our sins; and in him is no sin."
1st Peter 1:19-"...But with the precious blood
of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and with-
out spot."
Hebrews 7:26-"For such a high priest became us,
who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from
sinners..."
Hebrews 4:15-..."but was in all points tempted
as we are, yet without sin."
Christ faced the same temptations that we face.
He endured and overcame the temptations of the
lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and
the pride of life. He never once sinned. He
never once disobeyed God the Father, or failed
to do His will.
IV.Fourthly, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE
CROSS, A SUBSTITUTIONARY DEATH FOR US ALL.
We deserved to go to the cross and die, because
all of us are sinners. We all went astray, but
God laid on Him the iniquity of us all. How much
God must love us to allow that to happen to His
only-begotten Son, whom He loved deeply.
Revelation 1:5-"...Unto him that loved us, and
washed us from our sins in his own blood."
Matthew 20:28-"Even as the Son of man came not to
be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give
his life a ransom for many."
Isaiah 53:5-"But he was wounded for our transgress-
ions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chas-
tisement of our peace was upon him; and with his
stripes we are healed."
2nd Cor. 5:21-"For he hath made him to be sin for
us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him."
Romans 5:8-"But God commendeth his love toward
