"I Believe In One & Only One True & Living God"

(Series entitled-"I Believe")

Text: Psalm 90:1-2

"Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all

generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever

thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even

from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God."

Introduction-

This is the first sermon in a series entitled

"I Believe." In this series, we will be consider-

ing the main teachings of the Christian faith.

We begin where the Bible begins, with God, our

Creator.

I. First of all, THE BIBLE DECLARES THAT THERE IS

ONE AND ONLY ONE TRUE AND LIVING GOD.

Isaiah 44:6-"...I am the first, and I am the last;

and beside me there is no God."

Isaiah 43:10-11, "I am he: before me there was

no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

I, even I am the Lord; and beside me there is

no Saviour."

Isaiah 44:8-"...Is there a God beside me? Yea,

there is no God: I know not any."

The omnicient God who knows all that there is to

know says that He is God alone. There is no other

God, no other Creator that exists, or will ever

exist. He says it, and it is so. Psalm 147:5

says-"Great is our Lord, and of great power: his

understanding is infinite."

This God, in whom we live, and move, and have our

being, this Creator of us all, has revealed him-

self to all men. Romans 1:20 says-"The invisible

things of him from the creation of the world are

clearly seen, being understood by the things that

are made, even His eternal power and Godhead."

II.Secondly, THE BIBLE DECLARES THAT THE ONE TRUE GOD

IS A GOD OF POWER AND WISDOM.

Gen. 1:1-"In the beginning God created the heaven

and the earth."

Colossians 1:16-17,-"For by him(that is, Jesus)

were all things created, that are in heaven and

that are in earth, visible, and invisible, whether

they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,

or powers: All things were created by him, and

for him. And he is before all things, and by

him all things consist."

His power is first revealed in creating this un-

iverse and all that is in it. All things, notice,

both visible and invisible were made by him, and

for him. He is the reason for our existance. It

is only when we find where we belong in his plan

that we find true joy and happiness, for he made

us all for a purpose. See also Job 12:7 & 9.

III.Thirdly, THE BIBLE DECLARES THAT THE ONE AND ONLY

ONE TRUE GOD IS A GOD OF GRACE AND LOVE.

Psalm 107:8-"Oh that men would praise the Lord

for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to

the children of men."

Ephesians 2:8-"For by grace are ye saved through

faith, and that not of yourselves: It is the

gift of God."

1st John 4:8-"...God is love."

Ephesians 1:7-"In whom we have redemption throgh

his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to

the riches of his grace;"

IV.Fourthly, THE BIBLE DECLARES THAT THE ONE AND ONLY

TRUE GOD IS A GOD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HOLINESS.

He is perfect. He cannot lie. He can do no wrong.

He is pure in character and in thoughts and in his

actions.

Job 34:10-"Far be it from God, that he would do

wickedness: and from the Almighty, that he should

commit iniquity."

Psalm 145:17-"The Lord is righteous in all his

ways, and holy in all his works."

James 1:13 even declares-"...God cannot be tempted

with evil..." He is uncorruptible, and He alone

is truly good.

Therefore, all that God does in heaven, and on

earth is perfect. When He saves men, when He

condemns men who refuse to repent of sin, when

He pours out His blessings on the just as well

as the unjust, He is doing that which is right

and just, and holy.

V. Fifthly, and finally, I would like to point out

another characteristic of God, and that is that

THE BIBLE DECLARES THAT THE ONE TRUE AND LIVING

GOD CALLS UPON ALL MEN TO REPENT.

Much more, of course could be said about God, in

many more sermons, but this is what we have chosen

to use for our purposes in this message for today.

Acts 17:30-"And the times of this ignorance God

winked at; but now commandeth all men every where

to repent:

vs. 31-"Because he hath appointed a day, in the

which he will judge the world in righteousness

by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he

hath given assurance nto all nen, in that he

hath raised him from the dead."

Invitation-My friend, I encourage you to open up

your heart, and put your faith and trust in the

one true and living God. Because of Jesus, and
