This sermon explores the concept of Jesus as the guiding light in our world of darkness, providing clarity and direction amidst life's temptations and challenges, and leading us towards eternal life.
Welcome back church family! Last week we started a new 4-week series together called In His Words, which we are continuing today. As a brief recap, each week we’re looking into one of the I AM statements that Jesus makes in the gospel of John. These statements help us to better understand the true nature of Jesus, and consequently, the deep truths of our faith. These are Jesus’ own words, recorded for us in the bible. Every one of them is a gift and a guide.
Today will be no exception as we turn to John 8:12 where Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." As you well know, if you’ve ever tried to navigate a dark room at night, light is an amazing thing. And furthermore, Jesus, our Savior, isn’t just a flicker in a dark room. No, He is the light of the world! A beacon that illuminates every corner of our lives. His light guides us, empowers us, and shows us the way to eternal life.
As C.S. Lewis so eloquently put it, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Yes, friends, Jesus' light not only shines on us, it also shines through us, illuminating our path all the way home to heaven where we will spend eternal life living in the ever present light of Christ.

The Light of Jesus Guides Us. The Light of Jesus is not just a metaphorical concept; it is a practical, life-altering reality that has the power to guide us through the labyrinth of life. When we think about light, we often think about its ability to illuminate our surroundings, helping us see our path clearly. Similarly, Jesus, as the Light of the world, illuminates our spiritual path, guiding us through the complexities and challenges of life.
