This sermon explores the spiritual nourishment and life we receive through believing in Jesus Christ, the bread of life.

Introduction

Good morning, dear church family. I'm warmed by the sight of each and every one of your faces, gathered here today in unity, in faith, and in anticipation of the Word that brings life. We are gathered here not by chance, but by divine appointment. Our hearts are open, our spirits are willing, and we are ready to partake of the spiritual bread that our Lord Jesus Christ offers.

In the words of the esteemed Max Lucado, "Bread of Life? Jesus lived up to the title. But an unopened loaf does a person no good. Have you received the bread? Have you received God's forgiveness?" Today, we are going to reflect upon this very bread, the bread of life, the bread that our Lord Jesus Christ offers to us, and how it sustains us, nourishes us, and gives us life.

Let's turn our Bibles to the book of John, chapter 6, verses 26 to 40: "Jesus answered, 'Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.' Then they asked him, 'What must we do to do the works God requires?' Jesus answered, 'The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.' So they asked him, 'What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’' Jesus said to them, 'Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.' 'Sir,' they said, 'always give us this bread.' Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.'"

Bountiful Blessings of Spiritual Bread

When we think about bread, we often think about it in a physical sense. It's a staple in our diets, something we consume daily to keep our bodies functioning. But the bread that Jesus speaks of in John 6 is of a different kind. It's not something we consume with our mouths, but with our hearts and souls. This is the bread that endures to eternal life, the bread that the Son of Man gives us.

This spiritual bread is a gift from God. It's not something we can earn or work for. It's freely given to us by our Heavenly Father. And the wonderful thing about this bread is that it's not limited or scarce. It's bountiful and abundant. There's enough for everyone. No one has to go hungry. No one has to be left out. All are invited to partake of this bread and be filled.

The blessings that come from partaking of this spiritual bread are numerous. First and foremost, this bread gives us life. Not just physical life, but eternal life. When we partake of this bread, we are partaking of Jesus Himself, who is the life. He is the source of all life, and through Him, we have life. This is not a life that ends with physical death, but a life that continues on into eternity. This is the promise that Jesus gives us when we partake of this spiritual bread.

Secondly, this bread nourishes us. As physical bread nourishes our bodies, spiritual bread nourishes our souls. It feeds us, strengthens us, and sustains us. It gives us the spiritual strength and energy we need to face the challenges of life. It keeps us spiritually healthy and strong. When we partake of this bread, we are partaking of Jesus Himself, who is the bread of life. He is the one who nourishes our souls and keeps us spiritually healthy.

Thirdly, this bread satisfies us. It fills us, quenches our spiritual thirst, and leaves us feeling satisfied. It meets our deepest spiritual needs and leaves us wanting for nothing. When we partake of this bread, we are partaking of Jesus Himself, who is the bread of life. He is the one who satisfies our souls and meets our deepest spiritual needs.

Finally, this bread unites us. When we partake of this bread, we are partaking of Jesus Himself, who is the bread of life. And as we partake of Him, we are united with Him and with each other. We become one in Him. This bread brings us together, unites us as one body, and fosters a sense of community and fellowship among us.

Believing in the Bread of Life

As we continue to reflect on the words of Jesus in John 6, we are drawn to the profound declaration of Jesus: "I am the bread of life ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
