Intro:

Focus: Investigate the Condition of man and the Response of God

I. Sin comes through progression (Genesis 3:1-3)

A. Create Doubt.

The serpent’s speech steeps Eve’s mind in wonder and doubt that God would really command Adam and her not to partake of the fruit. He wanted to plant doubt in order to launch a beachhead of destruction.

B. Deny the Divine (v. 4)

The serpent goes from a subtle suggestion of doubt to a bold blatant statement. “You will not surely die!”

C. Blur right and wrong (vv. 5-6)

The serpent suggests that God’s command would destroy Eve’s freedom to know right from wrong. Eve was told that God’s command was due to selfish motives. Eve’s problem was not what she heard, but that she lingered and listened to it.

II. Effects of Sin (Genesis 3: 7-13)

A. Feeling of Guilt

They saw they were naked

B. There was Shame and Concealment (covering)

They began to try and conceal the sin and guilt with man-made

apparatus.

C. There was Fear and Flight

When they heard the voice of God, they ran and hid themselves. (v.8)

III. God’s Grace (Genesis 3:8-13)

A. God as the Great Seeker

-when man fled, God seeks (Luke 19: 10)

The question of “Where are you?” is a statement of grace and faithfulness

that He would seek out the man who was hiding in the garden that he

might hid him in Himself. God is also asking where He was positionally. “What is your spiritual condition Adam?” It was an opportunity to Adam to confess.

B. The Offering of Salvation. (v. 21)

- the garments they had made did not meet with God’s approval.

(Ephesians 2: 8-9)

They were guilty and God gave them garments from the animals as a

substitutionary death. God could very well said, “You deserve to die now,

but instead of you dying now, I am going to kill these innocent animals in

your place. This shed blood will take the place of your blood and will

cover your sins. Imagine one animal for the sins of one person.

Progression of sacrifices:

Genesis 3:21 ……….. one animal for one person

Exodus 12: 3 …..……one animal for a family

Leviticus 16: 15-16 … one animal can die for the sins of a nation.

John 1: 29 ………….. One sacrifice, the Son of God, the sinless spotless

sacrifice died for the sins of the world.

And that Sacrifice,.. the shedding of His blood for our sins is called GRACE.

Conclusion:

God’s grace is a free gift and is offering to you. And only God can cover all the sins we’ve committed.
