Summary: Jesus has the power to heal all infirmities, no matter how long or severe the situation is. The bible says, "He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction." - Psalm 107:20
“Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. 12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” 13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”
Infirmity means physical weakness (frailty), disability, or disease.
The spirit of infirmity refers to a spiritual force believed to be behind a sickness or disability. Although not all sicknesses and disabilities have a spiritual undertone(like the man who was born blind in John 9:1-3, but it was for the glory of God to be shown), the one experienced by this woman had a spiritual undertone (like the deaf and dumb spirit that Jesus cast out of a man in Mark 9:25).
• Hallelujah, praise God. Jesus has power over all situations, whether or not they have spiritual influence.
o Let’s first thank God for His authority over all situations,
10: “Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.”
Jesus was in the church (synagogue) teaching.
11: “And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, bent over and could in no way raise herself up.”
• It was in the church that Jesus found the woman with a spirit of infirmity for 18 years.
o She might have been a church member. This means it is not unfounded or uncommon to find people in church who have problems, including physical ailments, as was the case with this woman. Therefore, if you are bent over in any part of your life or body, and you are in a church, you are in the right place.
? Pray to God who put you in this church that Jesus will acknowledge you and straighten your life.
o She might have been a visitor in the church on that day, but she was in the right place.
? Pray that God will make today your day of healing.
• Her situation was not just a simple medical condition, but also one of spiritual oppression.
o Pray that God will release you from all spiritual bondages (verse 16) today, in the name of Jesus.
12: “But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, ‘Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”
• Pray that Jesus will have mercy on you and your household; that He will see you and speak to your situations
13: “And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.”
