Summary: I’m afraid we’ll sleep till the church dies! We need to something or somebody to wake us up and if the church is dead, then we need someone to revive us!

Acts 20:7-12-Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.

There were many lamps in the upper room where they were gathered together.

And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.

But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, “Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.”

Now when he had come up, had broken bread and eaten, and talked a long while, even till daybreak, he departed.

And they brought the young man in alive, and they were not a little comforted. (NKJV)

Acts 20:7-12-On the first day of the week, we gathered to observe the Lord's Supper. Paul was preaching; and since he was leaving the next day, he talked until midnight. The upstairs room where we met was lighted with many flickering lamps. As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he sank into a deep sleep and fell three stories to his death below. Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. "Don't worry," he said, "he's alive!" Then they all went back upstairs and ate the Lord's Supper together. And Paul continued talking to them until dawn; then he left. Meanwhile, the young man was taken home unhurt, and everyone was greatly relieved. (NLT)

There was a man who always fell asleep in church because the preacher was so long-winded. The pastor got so agitated about it that he gave one of the deacons a stick to hit him over the head with every time he fell asleep. Once the man dozed off, the deacon tapped him on the head and woke him up. A few minutes later, he starting dozing again, so the deacon hit him again, this time a little harder, again waking him up, but only temporarily. When he fell asleep the third time, the deacon hit him so hard he knocked him out of the pew and onto the floor, almost knocking him out. Rather than responding in anger, the delinquent church member was heard to say, “Hit me again; I can still hear him preaching!”

Did you notice after the boy was revived, the sermon went on, until daybreak, until the light was shone forth!

We need to wake up Church so the gospel can be preached, so that soul can be saved, backsliders can be dedicated and sleeping saints can be awaken!

When people are hurting and we don’t minister to them…We have fallen asleep!

When people are going hunger in our community and we don’t try to meet their needs…Then Church we have gone to sleep!

When people have needs that need to be meet and we have the resources…We are a sleep!

When your sleep, you don’t know the thief is in the house!

When your sleep, you don’t realize dangers that are happening all around you!

When your sleep, you don’t know the storms coming!

When your sleep, you may not sense that death is close, maybe for you or a love one!

I’m afraid we’ll sleep till the church dies!

We need to something or somebody to wake us up and if the church is dead, then we need someone to revive us!

We need to be awake, we need to be constantly aware of our surroundings, we need to be vigilant in our study of God’s word, we need to be vigilant in our worship, we need to be vigilant in our prayer time, because….Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)

Sometimes the deepest sleep. Is right before that alarm goes off.

I’m telling you church that alarm is fixing to go off!

I’m telling you church…. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. (1 Thess. 4:16-17)

Wake Up Church, Wake Up! It’s Time To Get Up!
