SERMON TITLE : HUNGER FOR FRESH FIRE

Text: Matthew 3:11 – “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (NKJV)

Introduction:

In every generation, God seeks men and women whose hearts burn with passion for Him. This fire is not a literal flame but the consuming, refining, empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. Sadly, many believers today have grown cold or lukewarm. What we need is not just more activities—but more anointing. We need fresh fire!

I. The Promise of Fire (Matthew 3:11)

“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

What is this fire?

i. Symbol of Purity – Fire purifies metal by burning away impurities (Malachi 3:2-3).

ii. Symbol of Passion – Fire in our hearts moves us to love and serve God (Luke 24:32).

iii. Symbol of Power – Fire came on the apostles in Acts 2, empowering them for bold ministry.

Application:

Many Christians have experienced the water baptism of repentance, but not the fire baptism of revival. The Church today needs more than orthodoxy—we need God’s manifest presence.

II. The Problem of Coldness (Revelation 3:15-16)

“You are neither cold nor hot... So then, because you are lukewarm... I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

Signs of Spiritual Coldness:

a. Lack of prayer and intimacy with God

b. No hunger for the Word

c. Dead worship, form without power

d. Contentment with shallow Christianity

e. Coldness kills revival!

Without fire, the Church becomes a museum of what God did, instead of a hospital where He heals. The absence of fire is not just unfortunate—it’s dangerous.

III. The Path to Fresh Fire (2 Chronicles 7:14, Acts 2:1-4)

a. Desperate Prayer

Every revival begins with a people on their knees (Acts 1:14)

Hunger is the fuel that attracts heaven’s fire

b. Total Surrender

God doesn’t send fire on empty altars (Romans 12:1)

Fire falls where there is a sacrifice

c. Consistent Fellowship with the Holy Spirit

i. Cultivate daily intimacy with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14)

ii. Fire must be maintained—Leviticus 6:13: “The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”

IV. The Power of Fresh Fire (Acts 2:1-4, Acts 4:31)

What happens when fire comes?

i. Boldness replaces fear – Peter the coward becomes Peter the preacher

ii. Miracles and wonders – God confirms His Word

iii. Souls are saved – 3,000 in one day!

Fire transforms ordinary people into extraordinary vessels.

Conclusion:

Today, God is asking: “Are you hungry for fresh fire?” You may be saved but dry. You may be serving but weak. The answer is not more effort but more of Him—more fire. Ask for it, seek it,

make room for it!

Altar Call / Prayer Points:

1. Lord, rekindle my hunger for You.

2. Baptize me afresh with the Holy Spirit and fire.

3. Burn away the chaff of compromise, fear, and apathy.

4. Set my heart on fire for revival in this generation.
