“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6NLT) “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor” (James 4:10NLT)

We human beings are seekers. We seek truth, glory, love, wealth, security, power, happiness, recognition, reputation and immortality. We also seek wisdom and knowledge. All men by nature desire knowledge. As fallen humans, our sins had separated us from God. He is Holy and cannot abide with sin. It is incompatible with who He is. To bridge that gap, we know that God came to us in human form to bear our iniquities and unite us back to himself. In the same way that sin contrasts with a Holy God, pride opposes God. All sin begins with pride. God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.

Bible says “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3:13) Humility keeps you focused on God and His ways. The scripture tells us, “In all our ways know God.” He gives wisdom and guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Apostle Paul says "Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."(1 Corinthians 1:24) and “Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 2:2) is “the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages” (1 Corinthians 2:7) The very Creator God comes to earth as a human being. If Jesus is exactly who He said He was, then everything He said is truth. Our entire future depends on whether we believe that. Jesus declared, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Paul writes that “He is the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15).

Humility is royalty without a crown

The glory of God, the truth of God and God Himself were revealed to every human being in the person of Jesus Christ. Humility is not true humility unless it lines up with truth. Jesus did not only teach His message. He was identical with His message …He did not just proclaim the truth. He said, ‘I am the truth.’ He did not just show a way. He said, ‘I am the way.’ He did not just open up ways. He said, ‘I am the door.’ ‘I am the Good Shepherd.’ Jesus wasn’t just a teacher of a superior ethic, He was the Way. Jesus didn’t just promise eternal life, He said, “I am the resurrection and the life” ’ ‘I am the I AM’” Jesus said: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” Jesus represented the Father perfectly. The only assessment that generates true humility is when we see God as He is and us as we are. True humility can be defined as the true measure of a man in relation to Christ. Paul says that Christ is “the wisdom of God” The pure and holy life of Jesus was one constant exhibition of humility. In the great plan of salvation by grace is purposed and provided that the divine character be implanted in the character of man.

Humility is the most beautiful of the beatitudes. There are many things in life that are beautiful. When God created the universe, it was with the one object of making the human participant of His perfection and blessedness, and so showing forth in it the glory of His love and wisdom and power. The life God bestows is imparted not once for all, but each moment continuously, by the unceasing operation of His mighty power. It is often said, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” When we catch a glimpse of who God is we realize we are nothing without Him or compared to Him. This is what it means to be humble in the sight of the Lord. When we get the revelation of the Creator behind the beautiful creation then we know our limits. When we realize that all our accomplishment are neither by might nor by power but by divine enablement, then we become humble (Zechariah 4:6) The first recorded temptation took place when the snake told Eve in Genesis 3:4-5 that she will be like God if she ate the forbidden fruit. Since then, mankind had been trying to play God. You are not God. Never been, never will be. In fact, if you want to really enjoy life, recognize that the One and Only God is your source for everything you are and have. (1 Corinthians 4:7)

There are three great reasons that urge us to be humble. It becomes me as a creature, as a sinner, and as a saint. Humility is a natural by-product of intimacy with God. When I am with Him, I know Him. When I know Him, I better know who I am. When I see myself rightly, I am humbled. The first definition of ‘humility’ in the Oxford English Dictionary is “The quality of being humble or having a lowly opinion of oneself.” There is an old and frequently quoted adage that says: “With age comes wisdom. “But It needs to be restated here “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.” In other words Wisdom does not necessarily come with age nor does it come automatically with age.
