How to respond when you are Discouraged?

Introduction: We are living in a success driven world. Everyone wants to be successful and people seldom want to speak about their failures. It is quite natural that if we do not find success in our ways we get discouraged and disappointed. Disappointment is the difference between expectation and reality. We must understand life brings disappointment to every person. God wants us to learn through out disappointments and mature into the person God wants us to be.

Let us see some examples of people who got discouraged in the Bible.

1. The children of Israel got discouraged. Numbers 21:4-5

Children of Israel were God’s own people. God brought them out of the bondage of Egypt. God parted the Red Sea for them. Every day was miracle in their lives. The Bible says the children of Israel got discouraged because of the way.

They spoke in their discouragement; Numbers 21:5. We must be very careful not to speak negative in our discouragements. See what God tells Joshua; Joshua 1:7-8. Words of strength and courage has to come out of our mouth when we are discouraged. Proverbs 18:21 says our tongue has the power for death and life. When we are discouraged it is God’s word that is supposed to be in our tongue.

2. John the Baptist got discouraged. Matthew 11:2-11

John the Baptist baptized Jesus. He was there when the dove came down from heaven. He was there when the voice of God spoke from heaven. He saw Jesus cast out demons and heal the sick. When John the Baptist got wound up in prison he got discouraged. He even doubted if Jesus was really the Messiah. He was so discouraged that he questioned everything he saw.

What to do when you fail or get discouraged?

1. Bring it to God.

2. Learn to grown from failures.

3. We must forget our failures.

Conclusion: Are you in the same position as the children of Israel and John the Baptist today? Has the devil put bars around you? Do not stay discouraged. Child of God failure is not the end of life. God wants to mould us thorough our failures, so do not give up. Commit our failures into God’s hands and he will make us a success.
