Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
The main point of this sermon is that through suffering, we develop perseverance, character, and hope, ultimately leading us to an extraordinary destiny as God shapes us through our trials.
Good morning, church family! Today, we're going to be looking at Romans 5:3-5, which talks about the hope of perseverance, the character of suffering, and the joy of endurance. I think we can all agree that we need more of these qualities in our lives, am I right?
Before we dive into the Word, I want to share a quote with you from the well-known Christian author, C.S. Lewis. He said, "Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny." I believe that's so true! As we go through tough times, God is using those experiences to shape us and mold us into the people He wants us to be.
Now let's take a look at the passage for today, Romans 5:3-5:
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Let's pray together before we dive into this message:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the truth it holds for our lives. We ask that You open our hearts and minds today as we discuss the hope of perseverance, the character of suffering, and the joy of endurance. Help us to see the purpose behind our struggles and to trust in Your plan for our lives. We love You, Lord, and we give You all the glory and honor. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Now, let's explore these powerful verses together and learn how to embrace the hope of perseverance, the character of suffering, and the joy of endurance in our lives.
