Summary: How to Get Help from Heaven
Isa. 40:27-31 How to Get Help from Heaven
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
I. The Weakness For Prayer.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
Life holds challenges that no man can meet in his own strength.
Man is Faint, Feeble, Fearful, & Frail - 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
(a) He is Dependent. -
Man is not God. Man is man. He is a mere creature and his very creaturehood spells weakness, the weakness of anything that is dependent upon another strength.
Psa. 146.3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.
(b) He is Divided. - Man's soul is divided, and being divided, it is disrupted. Being disrupted, it disintegrates.
(c) He is Defiled. - We need something to help and cleanse.
II. The Warrant For Prayer.
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
(a) We have a Lasting God. - the everlasting God
(b) We have a Loving God. - the Creator of the ends of the earth
(c) We have a Listening God - fainteth not, neither is weary
(d) We have a Leading God. - there is no searching of his understanding.
Psalms 103:14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
Our Father Knows. Sees. Cares. Rewards. and Gives—"He giveth and giveth again".
III. The Waiting For Prayer.
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
"They that wait upon the Lord", and they only, "shall renew their strength".
(a) Waiting on God is a form of Spiritual Seeing.
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Genesis 28:16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
It is a way of bringing God into the focus of your attention.
(b) Waiting on God is a form of Spiritual Listening.
prayer's highway carries two-way traffic.
There is the listening side of prayer.
There is the speaking side of prayer. - It is a dialogue.
In Psalm 105:1, O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. - we see the asking side of prayer
5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; - we see the listening side of prayer.
(c) Waiting on God is a form of Spiritual Confiding.
The word "Wait" means, "Looking with Expectation". It is an active Faith.
You show your faith in man by taking his word for it.
You show your faith in a bridge by walking across it.
You show your faith in a chair, by resting your weight on it.
You show your faith in God by taking confidently those resources of strength that come to you by prayer and letting them carry you through your duty, your difficulty or danger.
