Title: “How To Find God’s Will For Your Life”

Scripture: John 7:17

Introduction:

In a period of three or four years right at the end of the teen years, most young people will face several of the most crucial questions of life: Should I go to college? What college should I attend? What career should I pursue? Whom shall I marry? How can you know what to do? How can you be sure of God’s will? Here are a number of suggestions.

I. BE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO

A. God does not give His will on approval

B. The one who wills to do His will gets to know it

C. Complete surrender is necessary

II. LOOK FIRST AT YOUR AUTHORITIES

A. You are under authority until marriage

B. Establish who your authority really is

1. Parents

2. Pastor

3. Teacher

C. God will then meditate His will through your authorities

D. Listen even if you completely disagree (unless your authority violates the Bible)

E. Especially listen and obey when your authority is a Christian

III. THEN LOOK TO OTHER AREAS

A. Word of God

B. Prayer

C. Trend of circumstances

IV. SPECIFIC TIPS

A. When in doubt—play safe (do not do what you are not sure you should do)

B. Do not expect to know more than you need to know (You do not need to know today what you will be doing one year from now)

C. The closer you walk to the Lord, the more likely you are to know what He wants for you

D. The will of God never conflicts with the Word of God

E. Do what you know to do know—the rest will open up later (We often miss the will of God for today because we are worrying about the will of God for the future)

Conclusion:

God’s will is not some great mystery. It can be really known by a young person. The source of it is the Bible. The key to knowing it is the willingness to do it.
