Trust in God's plan for our lives, including our employment journey, and find comfort in His promise of a hopeful future.

Introduction

Good morning, church family! Today, we're gonna dive into a topic that's real and personal to many of us - the journey of employment. We've all experienced the roller coaster ride of job searching - the highs of getting that interview, the lows of the rejections, the uncertainty of the waiting.

But as we navigate this journey, let's remember the promise in Jeremiah 29:11,

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, "Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are, divine love would have put you there." These words remind us that our current situation, including our employment status, is not beyond God's knowledge or care.

Let's start with a prayer.

Dear Lord, as we delve into your word today, we ask for your guidance. Help us understand your plan for our lives, especially our employment. Give us the wisdom to prepare for our job search, to trust in your provision, and to rest in your promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.

So, let's get right into it.

God's Plan for Gainful Employment

The first point we want to delve into is God's plan for gainful employment. This is a topic that resonates with many of us, as we have all faced the challenges and uncertainties of the job market. The idea of gainful employment is not just about earning a living, but also about fulfilling God's purpose for our lives.

Biblical examples: The Bible is full of examples of individuals who worked diligently and faithfully in their respective fields, from shepherds and fishermen to tentmakers and tax collectors. These individuals were not just working to earn a living, but they were also serving God in their occupations. They understood that their work was a part of God's plan for their lives, and they did it with dedication and integrity.

For us: God has a plan for each one of us in our employment. This plan is not just about what job we should have, but also about how we should work. The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." This verse reminds us that our work is ultimately for God, not just for our employers or even for ourselves.

Using our skills and talents for His glory: Each one of us has been gifted with unique abilities and talents that can be used in our work. These gifts are not just for our own benefit, but they are meant to be used to serve others and to glorify God.

Trusting in His provision: The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:26, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" This verse reminds us that God cares for us and will provide for our needs, even in times of uncertainty in our employment.

Might be difficult: Understanding God's plan for our employment does not mean that we will not face challenges or difficulties in our job search or in our work. The Bible is clear that we will face trials and tribulations in this world. But it also assures us that God is with us in these trials and that He has a plan for us, even in our employment.
