INTRODUCTION:
Faith is the foundation of every believer’s walk with God. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him or receive His promises. However, developing faith that remains strong through trials and doubts is a journey that requires deliberate effort and spiritual growth. The Bible shows us examples of men and women who developed unwavering faith by trusting God’s word even when circumstances seemed impossible.
True faith is not a blind leap but a confident assurance based on God’s character and His promises. It grows as we learn to depend on God daily, nurture our relationship with Him, and obey His instructions. This message will guide you on practical steps to strengthen your faith and stand firm no matter the challenges you face.
1. BELIEVE IN GOD’S PROMISES
a) God’s Word is trustworthy (Psalm 119:89): The Bible is unchanging and true, and God always fulfils His promises.
b) Trust God’s faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23): God’s mercy renews every morning; He never fails His people.
c) Speak God’s promises aloud (Romans 10:17): Hearing and declaring God’s word builds faith.
d) Meditate on scripture daily (Joshua 1:8): Consistent meditation helps internalise God’s promises.
Biblical Example: Abraham believed God’s promise of a son despite his old age, and his faith was counted as righteousness (Romans 4:20-21).
2. LIVE BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT
a) Walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-17): Faith grows as we depend on the Holy Spirit, not on what we see.
b) Reject doubt and fear (2 Timothy 1:7): Faith and fear cannot coexist; choose faith boldly.
c) Focus on eternal realities (2 Corinthians 4:18): What is unseen is eternal, so keep your eyes on God’s promises.
d) Trust God in difficult situations (John 11:40): Jesus encouraged faith to see God’s glory beyond the present problem.
Biblical Example: Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water by faith, though the natural conditions were impossible (Matthew 14:28-29).
3. PRAY WITH EXPECTATION
a) Pray according to God’s will (1 John 5:14): Faith grows when prayer aligns with God’s purposes.
b) Ask in faith without doubting (James 1:6): Pray confidently, believing God will answer.
c) Persist in prayer (Luke 18:1-8): Persistent prayer strengthens faith and brings breakthrough.
d) Give thanks before the answer (Philippians 4:6-7): Thankfulness shows trust and activates faith.
Biblical Example: Hannah prayed fervently and persistently for a child, showing strong faith in God’s power to answer (1 Samuel 1:10-20).
4. OBEY GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS IMMEDIATELY
a) Obedience confirms faith (James 2:17): Faith without works is dead; acting on God’s word builds faith.
b) Trust God’s timing (Ecclesiastes 3:1): Waiting patiently in obedience strengthens faith.
c) Obedience brings blessings (Deuteronomy 28:1-2): Faithful obedience releases God’s favour.
d) Reject delay and procrastination (Luke 9:23): Take up your cross daily without hesitation to grow in faith.
Biblical Example: Noah obeyed God’s instructions to build the ark despite ridicule, demonstrating unwavering faith (Genesis 6:22).
5. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH FAITHFUL PEOPLE
a) Fellowship strengthens faith (Hebrews 10:24-25): Encouragement from others helps you stay strong.
b) Learn from examples of faith (2 Timothy 1:5): Hearing stories of faith inspires your own.
c) Avoid unbelieving influences (1 Corinthians 15:33): Bad company can weaken your faith.
d) Pray together with faith-filled believers (Matthew 18:20): Agreement in prayer multiplies faith.
Biblical Example: The early church shared in prayer and fellowship, resulting in bold faith and miracles (Acts 2:42-44).
CONCLUSION:
Developing unwavering faith is a lifelong journey requiring dedication to God’s word, persistent prayer, and obedience. When you fix your eyes on God’s promises, walk daily by faith, and surround yourself with godly influences, your faith will grow stronger and unshakeable. Faith empowers you to overcome every obstacle and live victoriously in Christ.
