Matthew 7:24-27

Topic: How to become a wise person

When we think of someone being wise, we usually think of a person who has been to college and has earned many educational degrees. When we think of someone being wise, we usually think of someone who has a whole lot of knowledge in their head. Now it must be understood that going to school and college is a good thing. In matter of fact, one should learn all they can while going to school and college. But going to school or college, and earning many educational degrees doesn’t necessarily make you a wise person because you can earn all the educational degrees that colleges and universities has to offer, but yet still not be wise. Having a whole lot of knowledge in your head does not make you wise person either. For example, there is a group in our society that calls themselves Evolutionists. A person who is an evolutionist is considered a smart and knowledgeable person because an evolutionist is one who has been to school and earned many educational degrees. But the problem with the evolutionist is that he/she believes that we were all evolved from monkeys. But the bible says that we were all created in the image and the likeness of God. And because the evolutionist has denied that God is our creator, God has called the evolutionist a fool because the bible says in Psalms 14:1 that , “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”

So the question is asked, “How does a person become wise person?”

Proverbs 4:5-7 says to “Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forget her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding.

To become wise, you must receive wisdom. And to receive wisdom, you must go to God who is the giver of wisdom

Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Ephesians 1:17 says “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.”

James 1: 5-8 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given unto him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord. A double man is unstable in all his ways.

To receive wisdom, we must look to God, who is the giver of wisdom . We must pray and ask God for wisdom, and God will help us to become a wise person. And to receive wisdom from God you must go through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the wisdom of God.

I Corinthians 1:23-24 says, “But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both the Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

To receive wisdom, we must believe and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior because Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God.

Not only are we to look to God and believe and receive Jesus Christ to become wise, but we must read and study the Holy Bible, the Word of God, so we can learn how to live wisely.

2nd Timothy 3:15- “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

To become a wise person, you must read, study, and learn the Word of God. 2nd Timothy 2:15 says, Study to show yourself approved unto God. A workman needeth not to be ashamed dividing the word of truth.

Now the reason why you need to study the Word of God to become a wise person is because God doesn’t want you to be unwise in your daily living. God wants you to be wise in everything that you do or say. That is, God wants you to be wise in making good decisions. God wants you to be wise in handling your personal finances. God wants you to be wise in your relationship with your wife, husband, children, relatives, neighbors, friends, co-workers, enemies, boss, strangers, or with people in general. God wants you to be wise in choosing a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife. God wants you to wise in following the laws of the land. God wants you to be wise in taking good care of your bodies and your health. God wants you to be wise in what you eat. God wants us to be wise in planning your daily affairs. God wants us to wise in handling our problems that we face in life. God wants you to be wise in handling your business with Him and with other people. God wants you to be wise in handling your emotions. God wants you to be wise in your thoughts and in your prayers. You see, God doesn’t just want you to be wise on Sunday, but God want you to be wise on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. God doesn’t just want you to be wise when you are at church, but God wants you to be wise when you are at home, at work, at school in your neighborhood, in the supermarket, while driving your car, while you are on vacation, or wherever you may be. God wants you to be wise in everything you do, or say.
