Summary: What can we learn about being a true servant from a man who lived several thousand years ago?
How to be a true Servant
Genesis 6:1-8
1And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
What can we learn about being a true servant from a man who lived several thousand years ago? In order to be a servant:
I. Trust GOD
Put yours trust in GOD and followed Him
(Psalm 146:3-5) Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
II. Listen to GOD
Ignore council of the world
(Psalms 1:1-6) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
III. Have Faith and Accept what GOD provides
Grace, Salvation, and safety
When a child of GOD has faith not only in the Word, but the GOD in the word, and the GOD of of the Word. ( John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. Which you maybe granted grace through that faith, ." (Ephesians 2:8-9) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” and find safety in (Psalms 27:5) "For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His Pavilion: in the secret of His Tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon A Rock."
In conclusion, when we learn to trust GOD in spite of our circumstances, and obey his word, just like Noah we will proclaim (Psalm 119:43-48) Do not snatch the word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws. I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, for I delight in your commands because I love them. I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees. Then, when we can ignore ridicule and remain steadfast in the task assigned by GOD; when its complete we can look forward to hearing His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord (Matthew 25:21)(KJV) And finally when perilous times try to overtake you, Psalms 27:5 "For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His Pavilion: in the secret of His Tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon A Rock."
