How The Holy Spirit Helps Us Successfully Perform Multiple Tasks
Contributed by Paul Fritz on Oct 18, 2000 (message contributor)
Summary: 1. The Holy Spirit equips us to perform many tasks as we follow the example of our multidimensional Christ.
1. The Holy Spirit equips us to perform many tasks as we follow the example of our multidimensional Christ. Jesus served people in the capacity of a teacher, shepherd, preacher, evangelist, priest, friend, apostle, advocate, model, mentor, disciple-maker, manager, guardian, ambassador, mediator, gardener, leader, director, builder, overseer, fisher of men, prophet, exhorter, rebuker, trainer, encourager, counselor, guide, protector, messenger, pacesetter, church planter, etc. The writer of Hebrews wrote, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." (Heb. 12:2) Ask the Lord to help you develop a greater understanding of the multiple tasks Christ performed in the accomplishing of His Father’s will.
2. The Holy Spirit helps keeps leaders from trying to do everything and decide everything in their organization. Some leaders subtly discourage the development of a plurality of Godly leaders in their church as they try to perform all of the leadership tasks for the congregation. Paul encouraged many leaders in every local church to share the multiple tasks that are required to serve the fellowship. Paul wrote, "The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you." (Titus 1:5) Ask the Lord to help you work through a plurality of Godly leaders in your organization to cooperatively perform the multiple tasks required for the successful accomplishment of God’s purposes.
3. The Holy Spirit supplies all the spiritual gifts that are necessary for every local congregation. Paul wrote, "He gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." (Eph. 4:11,12) Ask the Lord to help you synergistically work in harmonization with all the spiritual gifts represented in your organization for the maturing of all individuals and ministries.
4. The Holy Spirit brings out the best in every person so that some strong personalities do not discourage the functioning of other less noticed individuals or ministries. Paul wrote, "The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you... On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable." (I Cor. 12:21,22) Ask the Lord to help you wisely monitor the expression of a everyone’s gifts, ministries and personalities.
5. The Holy Spirit helps less experienced leaders learn from the wisdom of other Godly people in their organizations. The writer of Hebrews wrote, "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith." (Heb. 13:7) Ask the Lord to give you a learner’s attitude enabling you to be taught by more experienced elders in your fellowship.
6. The Holy Spirit helps more experienced leaders to learn how to bring along less mature elders. Paul wrote to Timothy, "Keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry." (2 Tim. 4:5) Ask the Lord to help you cooperate with every person in your fellowship to maximize the overall ministry of your church.
7. The Holy Spirit corrects inappropriately trained leaders so that they are brought into line with the whole will of God. Some leaders try to do the right things but end up doing them in the wrong places, at the wrong times and occasionally for the wrong reasons. Paul wrote, "And we urge you brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone... test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." (I Thes. 5:14,21,22) Ask the Lord to help you tactfully correct leaders in your organization enabling them to be all that God wants them to be.
8. The Holy Spirit helps the chief executive officer to select the kinds of leaders that will be able to carry out the multiple of required tasks for their organization. Many organizations do not perform up to their capacity because they have failed to select the kinds of people who possess the skills needed in their organization. Paul wrote, "An overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless - not over bearing, not quick tempered, not pursuing dishonest gain... He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it." (Titus 1:7-9) Ask the Lord to give you the wisdom to select qualified, capable, and complementary leaders
9. The Holy Spirit helps cull out ineffective leaders allowing more qualified people to take their place. Paul wrote to Timothy, "Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me... Alexander the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done." (2 Tim. 4:9,10,14) Ask the Lord to help filter out the ineffective leaders and replace them with qualified people who want to express their love for the Lord in performing multiple ministry tasks.
