HOW GOD ANOINTED JESUS OF NAZARETH
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Acts 10:38
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
INTRODUCTION:
The anointing is God's empowerment for divine assignment. Jesus Christ, though the Son of God, operated on earth as a man anointed by the Holy Spirit. His ministry on earth was not by human might or wisdom, but by the anointing from above.
Acts 10:38 gives us a summary of the effectiveness and reach of Christ’s ministry. The verse reveals not only the source of His power but the result of it—doing good, healing, and destroying satanic oppression. This shows us that the anointing is not for show, but for service.
As believers and followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the same anointing. Jesus promised that greater works shall we do (John 14:12), but only through the same anointing that empowered Him. Understanding how He was anointed helps us position ourselves for the same grace and power.
1. THE SOURCE OF THE ANOINTING
a) Divine Origin: The anointing came from God, not man. It is not self-acquired, but divinely bestowed (James 1:17).
b) The Holy Ghost: Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost—the third Person of the Trinity who empowers for supernatural living.
c) A Life of Submission: Jesus lived in obedience and humility, which positioned Him to be filled with power (Philippians 2:5-9).
d) Prayer and Fasting: He maintained intimacy with God through prayer (Mark 1:35, Luke 4:1-2).
Biblical Example: At His baptism in Matthew 3:16, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him visibly, marking the start of His public ministry.
2. THE PURPOSE OF THE ANOINTING
a) To Do Good: The anointing is not for pride, but for service—Jesus went about doing good.
b) To Heal the Sick: Healing was a consistent part of Christ’s ministry. The anointing brings restoration to the broken (Isaiah 61:1).
c) To Set Captives Free: He delivered those oppressed by the devil—showing the anointing confronts demonic forces.
d) To Glorify God: Every act of Jesus through the anointing brought glory back to God (John 17:4).
Biblical Example: The healing of the woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43–48) was a direct result of the anointing.
3. THE POWER THAT BACKED THE ANOINTING
a) The Power of the Spirit: The anointing was not just a feeling—it was power in action (Luke 4:14).
b) Supernatural Authority: Jesus spoke with authority, healed effortlessly, and cast out demons because He carried power.
c) Miracle Working Grace: Every miracle was a product of this divine power working through Him.
d) Overflowing Virtue: His anointing was so tangible that people felt and received from it without touch (Mark 5:30).
Biblical Example: Lazarus was raised from the dead (John 11:43-44) by the power of this same anointing.
4. THE RESULT OF THE ANOINTING
a) Multitudes Followed: People were drawn to Him not just by His words but by the demonstration of power (Luke 5:15).
b) Transformation of Lives: Sinners repented, the blind saw, the lame walked—lives were changed by His anointing.
c) Heaven’s Endorsement: God was with Him—confirming every act and word (Matthew 17:5).
d) Impact Across Generations: The effects of Christ’s anointing still manifest today through His followers.
Biblical Example: Peter and John healed the lame man in Acts 3, continuing the work under the same anointing.
5. OUR ACCESS TO THE SAME ANOINTING
a) Jesus is Our Example: If He needed the anointing, we need it even more to fulfil purpose.
b) The Promise of the Father: The Holy Ghost is now given to all believers (Acts 1:8).
c) Positioned by Purity: Holiness is a channel for hosting the anointing (2 Timothy 2:21).
d) Activated by Faith and Prayer: Desire, faith, and consistent prayer life will position you for the anointing.
Biblical Example: In Acts 2, the disciples received power from the Holy Ghost and continued the work Jesus started.
CONCLUSION:
The anointing was God’s seal of approval upon Jesus’ life and ministry. It empowered Him to confront evil, restore the broken, and do the will of the Father with excellence and impact. That same anointing is available for believers today.
If you must fulfil your divine assignment and bring transformation to your world, you must seek, receive, and walk in the anointing. It is the difference between ordinary effort and supernatural result.
