Pray

Father,

Open my eyes so I can see Your truth.

Open my ears so I can hear Your voice.

Open my mind so I can understand Your Word.

And open my heart so I may receive all that You want me to receive.

AMEN

Have you ever tried to figure out how big God is?

Country singer Ray Price wrote a song about it.

“Though man may strive to go beyond the reach of space

To crawl beyond the distant shim'ring stars

This world's a room so small within my Master's house

The open sky's but a portion of His yard

How big is God? How big and wide His vast domain

To try and tell, these lips can only start

He's big enough to rule His mighty universe

Yet small enough to live within my heart”

Have you ever really considered just how big our God is?

God really is a mystery, but we can know about Him and we can know how big He is.

God has revealed everything about Himself through His written word.

1

11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:

He gathers the lambs in his arms

and carries them close to his heart;

he gently leads those that have young.

12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,

or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?

Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,

or weighed the mountains on the scales

and the hills in a balance?

13 Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD,

or instruct the LORD as his counselor?

14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,

and who taught him the right way?

Who was it that taught him knowledge,

or showed him the path of understanding?

15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;

they are regarded as dust on the scales;

he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

Isaiah 40:11-15

God is the creator of the universe, the almighty ruler of the nations. And the nations are like a drop in a bucket.

With one phrase, everything that was created was created. All God had to say was “Let there be…” and there it was!

And yet His Word tells us, “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

And His Word tells us, 1 O LORD, you have searched me

and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. 5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:1-16 NIV

God, the creator of the universe, the Alpha and Omega, still knows each one of us better than we know ourselves.

How awesome is our God!

How big is our God?

3

Sometimes us humans have a tendency to view ourselves as the center of the universe.

As we view ourselves this way we always run into problems and sometimes those problems can feel like they are overwhelming.

The simple truth is that our minds can’t fully grasp the vastness of the universe and if we can’t grasp the vastness of the universe then how can we grasp how big our God is?
