Summary: A message of hope while we wait on the Lord.

“Hope While You Wait” — Psalm 130:5–7

Hold up your Bible with me and repeat this.

“This is my Bible.

I am what it says I am.

I have what it says I have.

I can do what it says I can do.

Today I will be taught more of the Word of God.

I boldly confess:

My mind is alert,

My heart is receptive.

I will never be the same.

I am about to receive the incorruptible, indestructible, ever-living seed of the Word of God.

I will never be the same—

I’ll never be the same, in Jesus’ Name! Amen.”

Turn with me to Psalm 130 and say, "Amen" when you are there.

This Psalm is called one of the Songs of Ascents—prayers sung by God’s people as they climbed the hills toward Jerusalem. It was a song sung on the way up, not after everything was fixed. A song sung while still waiting.

And today’s scripture meets us right where many of us live:

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,

and in His word I put my hope.

I wait for the Lord

more than watchmen wait for the morning…

O Israel, put your hope in the Lord,

for with the Lord is unfailing love

and with Him is full redemption.”

Psalm 130:5–7

This is not the voice of someone whose life is perfect.

This is the cry of someone in the middle, someone who needs a breakthrough, someone who is still believing even when the answers have not yet come.

1. Waiting Is Not Wasted

The psalmist says, “I wait for the Lord.”

Waiting is not punishment. Waiting is not delay.

Waiting is preparation.

Waiting teaches trust.

Waiting strengthens faith.

Waiting deepens dependence.

When God has you waiting, He is not ignoring you—

He is forming you.

Just like the watchman on the city wall, staring into the darkness, knowing—no matter how long the night feels—

Morning is guaranteed.

If you are in a season where you have prayed, cried, fasted, believed, and you’re still waiting—

God wants you to know: Your morning is coming.

2. Hope Has a Foundation: “And in His Word I Put My Hope.”

Your hope is not in circumstances, not in people, not in timing—

your hope is in His Word, which cannot fail.

God’s Word is stronger than:

your anxiety

your diagnosis

your financial pressure

your past

your present

and even your fears about the future

When everything else feels shaky, His Word remains unshakeable.

Hope rooted in the Word is not wishful thinking—

It is expectation with a foundation.

3. God’s Love and Redemption Are Already Moving Toward You

Verse 7 declares:

“With the Lord is unfailing love, and with Him is full redemption.”

Not partial redemption.

Not temporary redemption.

Not “enough to get by” redemption.

Full redemption.

The moment you turn your heart toward God, redemption starts moving in your direction—

healing, restoration, forgiveness, new beginnings, and fresh hope.

You don’t have to climb your way back to God.

His mercy comes running toward you.

“The Longest Night”

A few years ago, a young man named Daniel found himself in the hospital waiting room late at night. His father had suffered a massive heart attack. The doctors told him, “We’ll know more in the morning.”

That night felt like the longest night of his life.

He prayed. He cried. He felt helpless.

Every hour felt like an eternity.

At one point, Daniel stepped outside, looked up at the sky, and said, “God, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know You’re here.”

When morning finally came, the doctor walked out with a smile:

“Your father made it. He’s going to need recovery time—but he’s going to live.”

Daniel said later, “I learned something that night: The morning always comes. The waiting is hard, but God is faithful—especially in the dark.”

Many of you are in your own waiting room right now.

Maybe it’s a doctor’s report.

Maybe it’s a prodigal child.

Maybe it’s finances, grief, or needing direction.

Hear this today:

If you’re in the middle of a long night, hold on. God is already working in ways you cannot see.

The morning is coming.

If today’s message speaks to your heart…

If you’re in a season of waiting…

If you feel the darkness pressing in…

If you’ve been overwhelmed, discouraged, or tempted to give up…

This altar is open for you.

Come and lay your burdens before the Lord.

Come and say, “God, I’m choosing to hope in Your Word.”

Come and say, “Lord, I trust You while I wait.”

Come and say, “Jesus, redeem my life, restore my heart, renew my hope.”

Or maybe you need to give your life to Jesus today—for the first time, or as a rededication.

He is ready.
