Hope In Troubled Times
Contributed by David Hodgin on Nov 28, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: A call to trust God in times of trials
And
Psalm 20:7 & 8 tell us, "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright." (NLT)
I ran across this quote and thought it was appropriate for today,
I asked for Strength... And God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for Wisdom... And God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity... And God gave me a brain to think and brawn to work.
I asked for Courage... And God gave me obstacles to overcome.
I asked for Love... And God gave me troubled people to help.
I asked for Favors...And God gave me opportunities.
"I received nothing I wanted...But I received everything I needed."
When the world tries to overwhelm us,
when people fail us,
when freedoms leave us
and discouragement tries to take us,
remember God loves us,
God has redeemed us,
God restores us,
He replenishes us,
He rewards us,
and that is His plan for us!
VII. Finding Hope
Our task is to walk with Him. The President cannot order that, congress cannot legislate it, lawyers cannot prosecute it, schools cannot teach it or stop it; it only comes when a heart is turned over to the healing touch of the living God.
Deuteronomy 6:4-13
"Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
"The Lord your God will soon bring you into the land he swore to give you …. The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery …. You must fear the Lord your God and serve him...."
