Honor Your Father. (Father's Day)
Contributed by John Colbert on Jun 27, 2015 (message contributor)
Summary: Honor your father is a Father's Day sermon for the men, women, and for the children.
The sermons that I have listed are 30 to 40 minute sermons. I have only listed the points and a couple of comments under each point of each sermon to give the preacher a remembrance which the Holy Spirit can lead on and speak through the man of God.
Exodus 20:12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
As we Celebrate Father's Day today I wanted to specifically talk about the fathers. Children are so blessed today to have godly parents especially the father. The father should be the spiritual leader of his house and in charge of making known God and God's ways to his children. I do want to make it clear that the father is the spiritual leader but not a dictator. A child doesn't need to be best friends with their parents, what they need is a parent to be a parent making the right godly decisions for their children consistently every single day.
1. The command.
First, we see the commandment given by God and that is to honor your parents. Honor means a showing of usually merited respect for someone. Let's look at what it doesn't say, it doesn't say I have to agree with my father on issues, or accept the lifestyle he is living, but it does say I still have to honor him because of whom and what he is to me, my father. Remember nobody is perfect, including the father and the children.
2. The recipients.
Second, we see the recipient and today that is the father. It can be a father figure who may have stood in the gap for the missing father, a non-biological father, stepfather, or the grandfather. If you are a child with no father and no family then remember you always have God the Father that loves you so much and wants what is best for you and He will never leave you nor forsake you.
3. The promise.
Third, we see the promise. When the children honor their parents, God promises the children a long life here on earth. When we are faithful to God and keep our promises to Him, He is faithful to do what He said He would do for His children.
4. The promise giver.
Forth, we see who the promise giver is, God. Here, we see that it is God who gives us long life while we are here on earth. Only God knows our exact days and hours we have here on earth, What if I have a father that wasn't a great example of a father? If that is the case learn from him what not to do, learn from his mistakes so you don't make the same mistakes when you have children. Remember your Father in heaven will give you direction through His Word because it is a lamp to our feet. Our Father in heaven doesn't make mistakes, and He teaches us all to love unconditionally.
Closing,Happy Father's Day, and may God bless all the faithful fathers that are standing up and being the godly fathers that God intended them to be. Children pray for your father that God will keep him standing strong. Wives pray for your husbands that God will transform him into a godly father that will love and protect his family. May the Lord's peace be with you my friends.
