Summary: USED ON RALLY DAY TO HONOR OUR TEACHERS

I have great respect for teachers, but those who teach Christ are even more special. If we could not read and write and someone told us about Jesus, taught us his ways, his love, his mercy, I believe we would grasp every word and hang on to it for dear life. If we were not able to reason beyond a certain level, the stories of Jesus would still have significant meaning to us, because we could relate. Children love to hear the stories from the bible, about David and Goliath, Sampson and Delilah, Noah and the Ark, and baby Jesus in the manger.

All of our Sunday school teachers today had Sunday school teachers when they were little, and now their students will become Teachers as well, and the stories will pass from one generation to the next. Not taught by great scholars, but by people who love Jesus, moms and dads who want their children to love Jesus and bring honor to their parents.

In Deut 4:9 we find that we are told to do this.

9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

All of us are teachers! We teach by the example we set for others to see.

Our children emulate the way we walk, and the way we talk, our attitude towards others people. Our neighbors see us as the good or nasty person next door. All people see is the outside, which is the inside coming out, what we are inside being expressed physically.

If Christ dwells within us, that is what will be seen. If not that will be seen as well.

Titus 2:1-8 Paul, giving instruction for teaching

2:1 You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

2 Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,

5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

6 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.

7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness

8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

And finally this morning;

Study, to show yourself approved, rightly discerning the word of the Lord.

Honor your teachers, honor your Mother and Father, it will bring honor to you as well.

AMEN
