Summary: Home Going Celebration for a dear lady of our congregation. Comfort can be found in the scriptures. Here are some that were part of her life.

Home Going Celebration and Memorial for a dear elderly lady of our church. These words are for the comfort of those of us who remain behind.

Psalm 23

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

OBITUARY

Mrs. _____ was a devout Christian who attended church services regularly until her health precluded her, yet she continued to read her Bible daily.

The Bible gives us great strength and comfort with these words of the Lord.

Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Mrs. _____is a saint, in that she knew and loved the Lord.

No, she was not perfect. None of us are. We are all sinners that need a savior.

But she knew the savior, Jesus Christ, and had a personal relationship with Him. We know that She knew the scriptures as she would recite them to many of us.

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.

She loved the Lord and loved to talk about the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

She knew the truth about Christ.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live

She knew where she was going.

John 14:1-3 1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

She Believed

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life

She has a new home.

Philippians 3:20-21 20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

We can share in that same hope if we know Christ, and believe, and ask him to save us.

1 Pet 1:3-5 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

And God will comfort us until we see her again.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
