Summary: At the Last Supper, Jesus and the Disciples celebrated the Passover meal together. But as they got to the 3rd of 4 cups of the passover, Jesus made a most profound statement about the cup he was holding, and the 4th cup, which he would wait to take.

2012 Holy Thursday.Holy Communion, The Cup of the New Testament

Exodus 6:6-7 6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

4 cups of the Seder/Passover Meal

Four Cups of Wine

Each Jew is obligated to drink four cups of wine at these specific times during each Seder:

1st cup. SANCTIFICATION (Kadesh): I will bring you out of Egypt (at the start of Seder, following Kiddush) At the start of the Seder, following Kiddush.

2ND cup. DELIVERANCE: I will deliver you from Egyptian slavery. (Before the meal after reciting the Haggadah story)

3RD cup. REDEMPTION: I will redeem you with my power (following Grace after the meal)

4th cup. RESTORATION: I will take you as my people (the last cup, after completing Psalms of Praise (Hallel)

Jesus drank the 1st two cups in the traditional way. At the third cup, the cup of Redemption, he did something different

Matthew 26:27-29

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

But Jesus stopped there, he didn’t drink of the 4th cup of restoration, but promised that he would do so with us when coming into the Kingdom, after the Great Tribulation when ‘all Israel shall be saved’

Matthew 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

JESUS IS WAITING FOR US TO CELEBRATE THAT LAST CUP AT HIS FATHER’S TABLE.

THE TABLE IS SET, THE INVITATION IS GIVEN, HAVE YOU ACCEPTED AND RESERVED YOUR PLACE?
