Historical Fact
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
Apostle Paul said, that he delivered what he received. What is that? It is the gospel and just what is the gospel? It is how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
Folks, that is the gospel. Anything else is not the gospel. When some add things for one to do for their salvation that is religion. Religion does not save anyone...it is the good news of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Paul wrote (according to the scriptures) now, how could he state that because there was no New Testament? He was referring to the Old Testament prophesy.
A good example would be Isaiah chapter 53 maybe he would point out that He was wounded for our transgressions and He was bruised for our iniquities. We are like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of all of us.
He could show them from the Old Testament Scriptures that Jesus Christ was to die and to rise again. The scriptures of the Old Testament was not for this life only but also for the life that is to come.
Maybe Paul would turn to the Book of Genesis and say, I’d like to remind you about the offering of Isaac and how Abraham was ready to kill the boy. Now God spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up freely for us all.
The offerings at the altar ...the sacrifices for sin and really didn't please God but was a temporary fix for our sin.
There is also no gospel without the resurrection. Because of the resurrection Christianity is like no other belief. I don't really like calling Christianity a religion because, it is not a religion, it is a proven fact.
Look at the many witness. In verse 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once. In a court of law a witness is vital for the defense if you're going to win a case. Bible says there were over 500 at once.
What if we had each person that witnessed our Lord resurrection got on a witness stand this morning and talk for 15 minutes giving a testimony to what they saw.
If we listened to the testimony of all the people that Jesus appeared to, we would be there for days.
It would take over 128 straight hours just to hear 15 minutes each of the testimony of those that saw the Lord after He resurrected. It is an historical fact that Jesus died on the cross and resurrected on the third day but most will still not believe.
How about you? The Bible says That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation Romans10:9-10
