OUR STUDY:
Paul says in Galatians 4.4-5…
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Jesus came into the world at just the right time.
It was a time of expectation.
It was a time a Deliverer was needed.
And Jesus came, not at the wrong time.
It was not a mistaken time.
It was well-timed.
It was HIS TIME.
It was His time to come.
It was His time to fulfill the very purposes of God.
But why?
Why was it His time?
Why did Jesus come?
Paul puts it this way in Romans 5.6-8…
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person — though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die — but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Note that…again…“at the right time!”
But also note why…
God shows His love…
It was HIS TURN.
Not like, “My turn, my turn!”
No, think of it this way.
Jesus turned His attention toward us.
He counted us a dear possession worth saving.
He turned His attention away from His place in heaven.
He turned His attention away from the perfect fellowship of the Trinity.
And He turned toward us!
And what did He give?
It was HIS ALL.
Jesus gave up His life on our behalf.
And as Paul puts it, “Christ died for us!”
He held nothing back.
He gave it all.
So we come together at this moment in time as a community that shares this one thing in common.
We love Jesus.
We embrace Him.
And we remember Him.
We remember that…
JESUS ENTERED INTO TIME, TURNED TOWARD US, AND GAVE US HIS ALL.
He died for us.
He paid the penalty of our sins by dying on the cross.
We are united together because of the work of Jesus.
Those of us that know Jesus are invited to share in the elements of the table.
If you are a member of the body of Christ, please join us.
When Paul writes in I Corinthians, he warns the believers not to eat or drink in an unworthy manner.
In fact, he asks them to examine themselves so that they can come to the table honestly and cleanly.
We want to do that, this morning, in the understanding that…
I John 1.9…
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So, boldly name them, and ask God for His forgiveness and cleansing power to make You right before Him.
(Time of Silent Prayer)
We practice “communion” because we are to remember the death of the Lord Jesus.
We take the bread to remind us that it was by the body of our Savior that our salvation came.
He died in our place.
He became our substitute.
Being led in prayer by _______________________, let us take a moment and thank Him for favoring us with his mercy, love and kindness.
The apostle Paul writes, "The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."
Let’s partake together.
We take the cup to remind us that it was by the blood of our Savior that our salvation came.
He died for our sins.
He became our sacrifice.
____________________ will now come and lead us in prayer.
Again, the apostle Paul writes, "In the same way, after supper he took the cup saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."
Let’s partake together.
CHALLENGE:
Jesus is an example to follow.
He recognized His time.
Do you?
He turned toward us and gave us His all.
Should we not do the same?
Should we not take advantage of the time that has been given to us, turn toward others, and give it our all?
Does that not seem to be an appropriate way to respond to the love of Jesus?
