HIS THREE-FOLD OFFICE
Isaiah 9:6-7
INTRO: Last time, we looked at the prophecies relating to the Messiah.
Today, we will look at His Three-fold Office.
First of all, let’s notice the meaning of the word Messiah. It comes from the Greek word (MESSIAS), meaning: The Anointed One. Christ came
into the world as the anointed one.
I. CHRIST AS PRIEST.
A. 1 Samuel 2:35.
1. Old Testament prophecies of Christ coming as a priest.
2. God would raise up a priest after his own heart.

work though it will destroy the wicked ministers.
(2) No matter how bad the minister, the office shall con
tinue always to the end of the world.
(3) If some betray their trust, others will be raised up who
will be true to it.
b. This prophecy has its full accomplishment in the
priesthood of Christ whom God raised up when the
levitical priesthood had failed.
B. Notice that this prophecy was given to Eli the priest.
1. Eli was an anointed priest.
2. In the Old Testament, men were anointed for these high offices.
Therefore Christ was anointed a priest.

a. Divine words.

B. New Testament Fulfillment.

2. Acts 7:37.
III. CHRIST THE KING.
A. Isaiah 9:6-7; chapter 11, 12.
1. Old Testament prophecy of Christ the King as given to Isaiah
the prophet.
2. Given also to David the King in 2 Sam. 7:1-17.
B. New Testament Fulfillment.
1. Luke 2:7.
2. John 3:16.
C. Note also: Psalms 110:4.
1. Melchizedek was a King-priest.
2. See Hebrews 5:6; 6:20; 7:21.
3. Thirty years in Hebrews to unfold the promise in Psalms 110:4.
CONC: Prophecies of the Messiah given in the Old Testament give the clue to the interpretation to the Word of God.
