The Benefits of God
( Sermon upon Psalm 103)
Text: Psalm 103:1-5
v.1)
I like the way David begins his psalm. He begins it the same way we should start our day or any thing in life we do.
Bless the Lord!
When you wake up and get out of bed.
Before you eat.
Before you drive down the road.
At the job
Speaking to the sinner on the street corner etc..
If you want to show the world a miricale, bless the Lord.
In a world that people blow themselves up, and fly into skyscrapers. In a world that will kill themselves with drugs and alcohol, and children are more afraid of their parents than the man outside, if you bless the Lord the world will see a miricale.
O MY SOUL
Who? My soul.
You cant blame the Devil
Your moma
Your pastor
Your X- wife
Your world, for the loss of victory in life. You are the one who like David must shake yourself and say Bless the Lord , O MY,MY,MY SOUL.
Illustration: When I was young in Christ I was struggling with some temptations, and no one really could understand. Only God and me could. So in attempt to remind my self what I needed to do in the midst of temptation, while in a sober mind unclouded by temptation I wrote myself a letter something to the affect of
Hey, are you stupid? Don’t mess up our future for only a moment pleasure! Etc…
Each time I was tempted to sin,I would open that letter and read my plea to myself not to make the same mistake once again.
I like David was shakeing O MY SOUL, FORGET NOT ALL OF HIS BENEFITS.
V.2) FORGET NOT ALL HIS BENEFITS
Benefits = Gods goodwill
Luke 2:14 Says, “ Peace and goodwill toward men”
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called to his purpose.
God is not some giant in the sky throwing lighting bolts at you. He made you and he wants to finish you. He has given you benefits, his good will, he is behind you and want to see you prosper. We must shake ourselves, and remember his goodness and his intentions less we be snared by the advasary.
That is what church is about, prayer time is all about, Bible time is all about , reminding ourselves shaking our selves and acknowledging HIM and his goodness.
V.3) FORGIVETH ALL OF THY INIQUITIES;WHO HEALETH ALL THY DISEASES
Iniquities- sin, failure, injustice
The sinful things that we don’t like to talk about and our ashamed of.
Lying , cheating, stealing, murderers , drunkards, homosexuality , adultery , etc…
I don’t know your wrap sheet but he has forgiven you for whatever it was, it is all under the blood.
What a benefit!
Diseases – Hebrew it translates in English as malady.
Malady- sickness of heart, mind or soul
Sickness was brought into the world by sin, so when sin is destroyed so can the sickness.
Sin not only makes your soul sick but I believe it can make your mind sick as well.
(Mental disorders) Think about it.
The man possessed with a Legion of demons( he was sick)
When sin was gone so was the demons.
How many times did Jesus heal someone and also forgive them of their sins?
James 5:15 Ane the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
2Tim 1:7 Given us a sound mind.
Corinthians 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lords body.
Corinthians 11: 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
Not saying every time we get sick it is because of something we have done, but that sin caused sickness to come into the world and that if sin is removed by Christ, sickness can be to.
What a benefit!
V.4) DESTRUCTION TOO CROWNED
Destruction- means pit
Pit hopeless from every direction. Only way out is up. You can see it but never reach it.
I could never reach the mark as a sinner. I found defeat from every direction, until Jesus Christ wretched down in my pit of sin and lifted me up.
Song: He brought me out of the miary clay, he set my feet on the rock to stay etc….
CROWNETH THEE WITH LOVINGKINDNESS AND TENDER MERCIES.
Crowneth to you and I is honour, and glory, victory , and no doubt we have been given that but look at this.
Crowneth- In Hebrew encircled. That means that on every side is loving kindness and tender mercies. Before I was in a pit surrounded by darkness and hoplessness, looking at the way out but never able to achieve it. Glory be to God now I have been crowned, encircled by loving kindness and tender mercies.
