Not all Christians recognize their high calling, and some think they had attained it just because they were privileged to see it. Others stumble because of the pride of presuming they had attained. People fall to those same delusions over many other truths too. However, if we handle the truth as we should, it will not cause us to stumble or be blown up with pride but will elevate and empower us to the greatest purpose of mankind—to love God and serve Him, compelling others to do the same.

High calling is all about living a full life the way God made you to be.

These are the three points we need to be aware of about our high calling:

1. Every person has a calling - If God has called you to be really like Jesus in all your spirit, He will draw you into a life of crucifixion and humility. He will put on you such demands of obedience that He will not allow you to follow other Christians, and in many ways He will seem to let other good people do things which He will not let you do.

Proverbs 20:5 “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.”

2. God is working in you when you act on that calling- God will let others be great, but keep you small. He will let others do a work for Him and get the credit for it, but He will make you work and toil on without knowing how much you are doing. Then to make your work still more precious, He will let others get the recognition for the work, which you have done, and this will make your reward ten times greater when Jesus comes.

Philippians 2:12-13 “12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

3. Our call always glorifies God- So make up your mind that God is an infinite Sovereign, and has a right to do as He pleases with His own. He will not explain to you a thousand things, which may puzzle your reason in His dealings with you. God will take you at your word; and if you absolutely will yourself to be His slave, He will wrap you up in a jealous love and let other people say and do many things that you cannot do or say. Settle it forever, that you are to deal directly with the Holy Spirit. Also that He is to have the privilege of tying your tongue or chaining your hand or closing your eyes, in ways that others are not dealt with.

Exodus 9:16 “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
