Summary: It is recorded in Genesis 3 how man fell into sin, the covering of sin and the punishment for sin.

Hiding The Sin Will Not Help

I. The DISOBEDIENCE Of Man

1. The TRICKERY of Satan

a. Satan begins by casting DOUBT God's Word

*verses 1-3, (his DECEPTION on God's DIRECTION)

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

b. Satan ends by DENYING God's Word

*verses 4-5, (he made WORTHLESS the WORD of God)

“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

2. The TREACHERY

*verse 6, (she and her HUSBAND ate the fruit forbidden by the HOLY God)

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

II. The DECEIT Of Man

1. They hid in the LEAVES

*verse 7, (the first COVER UP to a COMMITTED sin)

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

2. They hid from the LORD

*verse 8, (the SECOND cover up which is the STUPIDEST )

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

III. The DESPAIR Of Man

1. The INTIMIDATION

*verses 9-10, (FRIGHTENED because of doing what is FORBIDDEN)

But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

2. The INVESTIGATION

*verse 11, (the most ARDUOUS questions to ANSWER)

And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

3. The INCRIMINATION

*verses 12-13, (the BEGINNING of the BLAMING game)

The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Conclusion: We are responsible for our sin. So instead of blaming others to escape responsibility, repent of the sin. God is merciful because of His great love for us. We can be assured of His forgiveness of our sins if we confess it to Him and ask for forgiveness and change our lives according to 1 John 1:9.
