Summary: Our invitation to follow God is simple: Come to Him, turn from our wicked ways, repent of our sin, and receive His invitation to come and be found faithful. The challenge of this world is, and always will be this: Will we continue to try to be the ones in charge?

Isaiah, Part 22

Introduction

- Welcome to Seasons – intro – so glad you are here today

- Last week, we saw the pain of a suffering servant; faithful to God alone (Jesus)

- Today, see a critical invitation; one that we should know and respond to

- Read Isaiah 55:1-9 / PRAY

Point 1 – An invitation to receive the benefit of gospel grace

- V1 is a compelling call – it’s an open invitation (even if you have no money!)

-- Salvation is free – it is a gift from God – it is what we have today to also share

-- PAY attention: Isaiah’s words here – “Is anyone …” … “Whosoever” … “All”

- The invitation is to come and experience; come and taste -- REF: Psalm 34:8

-- Satisfaction is given in the basic needs of life (nourishment); it brings assurance

? SEE: There is a pressing argument to highlight the invitation ?

- V2 – Quick satisfaction is not the answer to what will sustain us in life

-- Listen: You will get the “good stuff” because that is what God the Father gives

- V3 – Invitation to come and listen to what God is saying – causes learning!

-- Need willingness b/c life is found in Him; John 10:10, “The thief’s purpose”

-- KEY: If we won’t come then we cannot and will not receive

- V3b/4 – See the reference to David – Jews would know this backstory

-- His strength was what legends were made of – fought against Israel’s enemies!

- Against impossible odds – bravery unmatched by soldiers; see 1 Samuel 17:26

-- APP: His trust in God brought him unwavering courage to defend … God!

Point 2 – A promise of the success of this invitation

- V5 – See the result of following and receiving – God makes us glorious

-- This is NOT (stress) “name it and claim it” … that is a false, satanic, doctrine

-- BIG: The result is that God makes us acceptable to Him by changing our lives!

-- We become acceptable because we become like children; under banner of Grace

- We are called to come and trust in what God delivers:

• Submission to God obeys spiritual authority: Hebrews 13:17, “Obey …”

• Submission to God obeys physical authority: 1 Pet 2:13-14, “For the …”

• Submission to God brings peace in our life: James 4:7, “So humble …”

In the invitation, comes a challenge to repent and change

- See this: even with this gracious invitation there is a WARNING! (read v6)

• He, God, will NOT always be available to provide grace

• This was written in 700 BC – how much time is left?

• Jesus said in 33AD that He was coming back soon – how much time is left?

- ASK: How much time do you think we have left before He returns? John 6:44

-- CHALL: We might not even have a day left to waste: tell someone about Jesus!

- CONSIDER: Are we not able to see the frustration God has with sin in us?

-- Do we not feel the burden of sin? Are we not sick of the result of sin in our life?

-- ENC: Call on God WHILE (Hebrew: hayah; “have”; “available”) time Jn 14:6

- Walk through verse 7 through 9 with me … see the calling:

• Let the wicked (us) change our ways; repent - stop - turn to God now

-- Why? Because God does not change (He is trustworthy); Hebrews 13:8

• We can’t think like Him; FACT: We are not meant to know everything

-- This means that we may not have the answers to everything; need to accept this

-- However, God does – and we cannot think like Him (Incapable!): James 3:17

- He is in Heaven, we are here … and v1 (today) says what? COME!

-- Why? Because He knows what is best; knows what we need; we must trust!
