Summary: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).

I. Today's message will focus on 1 John 2:1

a. Have you ever been to a point in your life when you needed someone to defend you?

b. Did you ever find someone to be or advocate or to step in to defend you?

c. I am sure all of us needed someone to step in and help us out at one point and time in our lives.

II. Adam, Eve, and the advocate

a. Adam was the first male created by God, and Eve was the first woman created by God. These two were husband and wife, and they were suppose to help eachother live right before God.

b. Eve was tempted by the devil one day in the garden and fell to his tempting ways. Eve would eat from the tree that God told her not to eat from. In return Eve would trick Adam to eat from the same tree as well.

c. Because of this sin it made it impossible for humankind to make it into heaven. So God sent us an advocate whose name is Jesus to defend us, and to die for our sins so that we may have a chance of getting into heaven.

III. Why did God do this?

a. God did not have to send us his one and ONLY Son to die for our sins.

b. God did it because he loves us and he wanted to give us a second chance at eternal life.

c. God did this for you and I, now what are we willing to do for God?
