Isaiah 6:1-13 Heaven's Call
The Church's Greatest Need Is :-
1. A Revelation Of God's Sovereignty - Isaiah Saw God
1 In the year that king Uzziah died -
his was a Reign of Plenty, a Reign of Prosperity, a Reign of Protection
I saw also the Lord
(a) God's Person - 5 for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
He saw God in His majesty - “sitting upon a throne.”
He saw God in His loftiness - “high and lifted up.”
He saw God in His righteousness - “and his train filled the temple.”
He saw God in His holiness seraphim cried: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts”(v. 3). He saw God in His glory - “the whole earth is full of his glory” (v. 3).
(b) God's Position - 1 I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,
Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
(c) God's Power - and his train filled the temple.
2 Chron 7:1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.
Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(d) God's Purity - 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
Hab 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
2. A Recognition Of God's Salvation - Isaiah Sensed God
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone;
(a) Sensed God's Holiness
(b) Sensed His Own Helplessness - Woe is me
Peter - Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
John - Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
(c) Sensed his people's Heedlessness - I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips:
He saw his Self - Woe is me
He saw his Sin - because I am a man of unclean lips,
James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
He saw his Society - and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips:
3. A Resignation To God's Service - Isaiah Served God
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
(a) Cleansed for service 7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
By Blood & Fire - 6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
(b) Called for service 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Whom shall I send? our Maker cries; And many when they hear God’s voice,
Are sure where their vocation lies; But many shrink from such a choice.
For who can serve a God so pure, Or claim to speak in such a name,
While doubt makes every step unsure, And self confuses every aim?
And yet, believing, God who calls, Knows what we are and still may be,
Our past defeats, our future falls, We dare to answer: Lord, send me!
Those who are called God purifies, And daily gives us strength to bend
