Summary: An evangelistic sermon on the reality of Heaven as the destiny of the believer and of who and what will not be found there..
Heaven
Rev. 22:1-4 and 22:1-5
Introduction
Four facts are clear from God’s word.
1. There is a future life.
2. There is no intermediate place. – no purgatory – no soul sleep
3. The eternal destiny of the soul is determined this side of the Grave. There is no second chance after death.
4. The only source of information we have about Heaven is the Bible.
What does the Bible have to say about Heaven.
I. Heaven Is A Place
John 14:1-6
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
1. Heaven is a real place – a location.
2. Where is Heaven
Heaven is up – which place is up
Psalm 48:1-3
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. [2] Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. [3] God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
Isaiah 14:13-14
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
II. Heaven Is A Prepared Place
1. No one will be in Heaven by surprise.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
2. It is a place of preparation.
Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
III. Heaven Is A Place Of Holiness
It is holy because of what is barred from it. – no sin – no sickness – no sorrow – no pain – no death – no darkness – no wickedness – no person who has rejected Christ as Savior.
1. Nothing that defiles is there
2. No funeral homes – no cemeteries
3. No hospitals
4. No orphanages
5. No prisons or police
VI. Heaven Is A Place Of Rest
1. The burdens of life are lifted.
2. Earthly cares are left behind.
V. Heaven Will Be A Busy Place.
We may study:
Law under Moses
Music under David
Prophecy under Isaiah
Philosophy under John
Theology under Paul
VI. Heaven Is At The End Of The Christian Life
2 Tim. 4:6-8
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. [7] I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: [8] Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
VII. Heaven Is A Place Of Reward.
It is a reward for those who say “Yes” to Jesus.
