Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” Genesis 14:18-20
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’ Genesis 14:22
Melchizedek came to Abram as a priest of the Most High God, representing the Most High God, the possessor of heaven and earth, and bestowing him with Most High God's blessings, which were heaven and earth-sized blessings. So when the earthly king (king of Sodom) gave his blessings or goods, he rejected them because they are nothing (very insignificant) in comparison to the heavenly king's blessings. When Melchizedek came to Abram, a Most High understanding of God was rubbed (imparted)into Abram’s life, which changed his perspective of who His God IS. This was reflected in the words he spoke to the king of Sodom. Change of one’s perspective on God and life is the impact of an encounter.
Abram indirectly said the King of Sodom that the God whom I know is the God of heaven and earth, and His blessings are also heaven and earth-sized blessings. In comparison to heaven and earth-sized blessings, the goods that you give are nothing. Abram might have also indirectly stated, "You give me some blessings related to earth, but I know a God who gives a blessing that are related to heaven." Heaven sized blessings are blessings that moth cannot destroy; they are so abundant, have eternal validity and will never run dry(depleted); they are the blessings that are given to us when we enter heaven, and so on. Heaven sized blessings are blessings that we cannot enjoy or obtain on Earth; but God intended to give them to Abram.
Maybe if Abram had taken the King of Sodom's goods, it would have stopped God Most High blessings, so God sent Melchizedek to Abram before he met the King of Sodom. God had to stop Abram from taking goods from the king of Sodom. God is a God who both blesses and stops unwanted things. Melchizedek was a priest of God Most High, serving not a High God, but a Most High God. Maybe he ministers directly before the Most High God, like the cherubim, seraphim, and 24 elders. There are priests who minister in the outer courtyard and the holy place. But Melchizedek is a priest who ministers in the most holy place, right before God.
Abram met Melchizedek, a priest who ministered before the Most High God, where God's Holiness and Glory were at a very high radiance and intensity. Abram’s speech and vocabulary about God changed after meeting Melchizedek. His reverence and admiration to God increased after meeting Melchizedek. His heart had also changed, as seen by his refusal to accept King Sodom's goods. His vocabulary and association with God - LORD, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth - was something Abram never said before he met Melchizedek. I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours – There was a divine confidence that rubbed into Abram’s life after meeting Melchizedek. Abram became certain that God would bless him, but he was also certain that God would bless him with exceedingly abundant and heaven-sized blessings. Abram became certain that God would bless him and that he did not need any help apart from God. He came to a place where God is all that is necessary or needed to bless him and nothing else.
Many people in our generation say that they had an encounter with God. However, there is no change in their talk, vocabulary, and actions. They're still the same. There is no increase in fear and reverence for God. They are unaware of the nature/ persona in which God met them. They simply say that God spoke to them, whereas Abram specifically says LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth. Abram described the exact way God met him. Details concerning God's exact nature or persona are missing. They do not associate God with a persona or nature, such as Lord of Hosts or Lord God Almighty and so on. After the encounter, there are no divine deposits (impressions) of God that are imparted into their lives, which results in a shift of their perspective about God and life. A person who really had an encounter with God will undergo significant transformation in his or her life, as seen clearly by their actions, lifestyle, and vocabulary.
