Summary: Leading the church to hear ONE WORD among many words.
Introduction:
1. Change is the "buzz" word for this presidentcial election of 2008.
2. There are many words spoken, words of promise, words of hope, but we have heard these words before and nothing has really changed.
3. The preacher (writer of Hebrews) wants the church to hear ONE WORD.
4. The church is beat up, criticized, some have drifted away, others are tired, they distracted, and they keep doing the old thing hoping for different results.
5. The preacher realizes that change is necessary and so he gets to the HEART OF THE MATTER and brings them to the HEART OF GOD.
THE HEART OF GOD IS THE WORD (JESUS)
Henry Blackaby write in his book, The Man God Uses, "Scripture is not a concept; Scripture is a person...The Word is a person." (p.83).
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
JESUS IS THE HEART OF GOD
He owns everything. (Heir of all things)
Ephesians 1:22-23 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
He is Creator (through whom He made the uinverse)
John 1:2-3 He was with God in the beginning. through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
He is Light (radiance of God’s glory)
John 8:12 "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
He is God (exact repensentation)
John 1:1, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
He is Powerful (sustaining all things by his powerful word)
Colossians 1:15-20 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
He is Salvation (provided purification for sins)
Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.
He completed the Work (sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven)
John 19:30 "It is finished."
He is Greater (superior to angels)
Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
JESUS IS THE FINAL WORD
Jesus came to show us God. His name, Matthew 1:23 "Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."
Jesus reveals to us the heart of God.
As the church living in a world with many voices and many more words, we should only hear ONE, becuase Hebrews 1:2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,
Jesus is the answer. He owns me, if He can hold the world together surely He can hold my world and create order. He is powerful enough to fight my battles, He is my salvation.
Listen church!
