Headless Wonders
Contributed by Craig Benner on Dec 6, 2013 (message contributor)
Summary: Have you ever been in a place where you thought that you had it all under control, but then you lost it? If we do not have the Head in its rightful place, then all is in vain.
No Advancement without a Recovery
(Headless Wonders)
2 Kings 6:1-7
Don't lose the Head
Evangelism is for the lost---Revival is for the church
I. Recognize the Need to Move On (Advance)
They said that the place was too strait (limited).
They invite the man of God to help out----always a good idea.
Unity is a prerequisite for progression.
The Jordan River was the entrance to Canaan land.
II. The Progress is Stifled and Held Up without the (Axe) Head
1 Jn. 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
You and I are the handle, we are not the head.
Col. 1:18 And he is the head of the body,
We all receive some hard blows in life that can cause our connection with the head to become loose.
Examine yourself regularly to be sure that you are well anchored to the Head.
2 Co. 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
III. The Axe Head was Borrowed
Ps. 62:11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God
We are not the owners, but have been entrusted with salvation and the power of the Holy Ghost.
IV. The Function of the Axe
1 Jn. 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The axe is used to detach the tree from its previously fixed environment so it can be put to a bettter use.
Where did you lose it (the axe)? in prayer? in Bible reading? in obedience? in faithfulness?
Go back to the place where you last possessed it!
Gal. 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Some have lost connection because they do not want to be responsible. They want the benefits of a relationship without a commitment.
Have you lost the edge, or have you completely lost the Head?
Eccl. 10:10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
V. What is Necessary for your Miracle
Verse 6 says that the prophet cut a stick (something green; with life).
"The iron did swim". Not just float; it became as living.
VI. Reach out and Take Hold
It may be hid from your sight, but it is within your reach.
The muddy Jordan may obscure its view, but it is swimming close, it is splashing so you can detect its location and get a hold of it.
Don't get so overinvolved in the work of the Lord, that you lose the Lord of the work.
The secret of not ever losing the head.
You can take an axe with its wooden handle attached and soak it for a good while in a bucket of water. The wood will swell, and tighten ever so much to the head that it almost impossible to loosen it. The water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Soak yourself good and long in His power and you will be ready for the work that God wants you to do.
