INTRODUCTION:
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Everything we believe hinges on the fact that Jesus rose from the dead just as He said. When the angel declared in Luke 24:6, “He is not here, but is risen,” it was not only a statement of fact, but a divine announcement that death had been defeated and hope had been restored.
Easter is more than a historical event—it is the living reality that Jesus triumphed over the grave, making a way for every believer to walk in victory, hope, and eternal life. The resurrection proves that the cross was not a defeat but a setup for the greatest victory in human history.
Today, we rejoice and proclaim boldly: He is risen indeed! His resurrection is the foundation of our salvation, the assurance of our future, and the power behind our daily living.
1. THE RESURRECTION CONFIRMS OUR FAITH
The resurrection validates all of Jesus’ claims and teachings.
a) It proves that Jesus is who He said He is
His resurrection affirms His divine identity as the Son of God (Romans 1:4).
b) It gives meaning and strength to our faith
Without the resurrection, our faith would be useless (1 Corinthians 15:14).
c) It confirms the truth of God’s promises
God fulfilled His word in raising Jesus, proving that He keeps His covenant (Acts 13:32-33).
d) It gives us confidence to share the Gospel
We preach a risen Saviour, not a dead prophet (Acts 4:33).
Biblical Example: The early apostles, especially Peter, boldly preached Christ’s resurrection as the foundation of their message (Acts 2:32).
2. THE RESURRECTION GUARANTEES OUR JUSTIFICATION
Jesus' resurrection was the final stamp on the finished work of our salvation.
a) It shows that the price for sin has been fully paid
He was raised for our justification, proving that the debt of sin is settled (Romans 4:25).
b) It makes us righteous before God
Through His resurrection, we are declared not guilty (2 Corinthians 5:21).
c) It opens the way for a new life in Christ
We are now free to live as sons and daughters of God (Romans 6:4).
d) It gives us victory over guilt and condemnation
No charge can stand against the justified believer (Romans 8:33-34).
Biblical Example: Paul, once a persecutor of the church, became a preacher of justification through Christ’s resurrection (Romans 5:1).
3. THE RESURRECTION REVEALS THE POWER OF GOD
The resurrection is a demonstration of God’s unmatched power over death and darkness.
a) It is the greatest miracle ever witnessed
Raising Christ from the dead showcased God’s supreme authority (Ephesians 1:19-20).
b) It broke the power of death and the grave
Death could not hold Him because He was sinless (Acts 2:24).
c) It activated resurrection power for believers
That same power now works in us (Philippians 3:10).
d) It confirms Jesus’ victory over hell and Satan
He holds the keys of death and Hades (Revelation 1:18).
Biblical Example: Lazarus’ resurrection prefigured Christ’s power over death—but Jesus’ own resurrection confirmed it eternally (John 11:43-44).
4. THE RESURRECTION SECURES OUR ETERNAL FUTURE
The empty tomb assures us that life does not end in the grave.
a) It promises believers their own resurrection
Christ became the firstfruits of those who will rise (1 Corinthians 15:20).
b) It offers hope beyond the grave
Death is no longer final for the believer (1 Thessalonians 4:14).
c) It assures us of heaven as our home
Because He lives, we shall live also (John 14:19).
d) It calls us to live with eternity in view
We are pilgrims here, looking toward a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:13-16).
Biblical Example: Stephen, at the point of death, saw Jesus standing in heaven—proof that resurrection glory awaits (Acts 7:55-56).
5. THE RESURRECTION EMPOWERS OUR DAILY LIVING
Christ’s resurrection isn’t just for the afterlife—it fuels how we live now.
a) It gives us strength to overcome trials
We live with the confidence of resurrection victory (2 Corinthians 4:14).
b) It inspires us to live holy lives
We are raised to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4).
c) It energises our mission and service to God
Knowing He lives, we labour with purpose (1 Corinthians 15:58).
d) It assures us of His daily presence
The living Christ is with us always (Matthew 28:20).
Biblical Example: The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were transformed when they realised the risen Lord was walking with them (Luke 24:31-32).
CONCLUSION:
The empty tomb is not a symbol of loss—it is a declaration of victory. Jesus is not in the grave; He is alive forevermore! Because He lives, we live. Because He rose, we rise. The resurrection is not only a past event; it is a present reality that shapes how we live and a future promise that assures us of glory.
