HE DIED FOR ME

TEXT: MATTHEW 26:45-56

INTRODUCTION:

Jesus Christ came for the salvation of mankind yet His own rejected and crucified Him. He was betrayed and sold for 30 pieces of silver- Matthew 26:15 tried seven times and denied by Peter thrice- John 19:15, 21-22, helped by Simone to carry his cross- Matthew 27:30, crucified with thieves - Matthew 27:38, Nicodemus prepared His body-John 19:39 and laid on the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea- John19:38. It is important to note that the trial of Jesus Christ bought reconciliation

- Luke 23:12 and freedom to a thief- Matthew 27:17.

THE TESTIMONIES OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ declared guiltless by Pilate-John 18:38, 19:6

Declared a just man by Pilate’s wife- Matthew 27:19

As a righteous man- Luke 23:47

Declared Innocent by Judas Iscariot- Matthew 27:3-6

Declared sinless by a thief- Luke 23:41

As the son of God by the centurion- Matthew 27:54

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SEVEN STATEMENTS OF JESUS CHRIST ON THE CROSS

1) Father forgive them-Luke 23:34

This speaks of Jesus Christ as our mediator and High priest showing that forgiveness of sin comes through Jesus Christ and no other man.

2) You will be with me in Paradise- Luke 23:43

This speaks of Jesus Christ as the savior. All powers and authority belongs to Him to save and deliver whoever believes in Him-John 3:16

3) Mother behold your son, son behold your mother-John 19:26

This speaks of Jesus Christ as the repairer of the breach in the family. He restores good family relationship.

4)My God my God why has thou forsaken me? Matthew 27:46

He took upon Him our sins and paid the debt that no man can pay, showing that He destroyed the powers of sin and darkness over man.

5)I thirst- John 19:28, Psalm 69:21, Psalm 22:15

This is the fulfillment of prophecy spoken before the birth of Christ. It shows the humanity of Jesus Christ. He took our bitter water to give us the living water- John 4.

6)It is Finished- John 19:30

This is the statement of victory and triumph over sin, evil and Satan. Jesus Christ defeated death and sin with the sacrifice with His blood on the cross.

7) Father into your hands I commit my spirit- Luke 23:46

This shows that His Father in Heaven will glorify Him as He earlier prayed and spoke- John 17:1, John 16:14

Conclusion

Jesus Christ died once for all that we should gain in His pain. Do not crucify Christ in your life again.
