Having the faith to discover my purpose
Living in the 21st Century
Matthew 17:14-21
I. 4 things that we use to keep us from discovering our
purpose
1. The lack of money.
2. The lack of training or education.
3. The lack of resources or facilities.
4. The lack of dynamic faith.
“You didn’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matt. 17:20 (NLT)
II. Three obstacles to dynamic faith
1. Unconfessed sin will hinder our faith
If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened. Psa. 66:18 (NLT)
Well, God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will. John 9:31 (NLT)
2. Rejecting the will of God will hinder our faith.
And we can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. 15And if we know he is listening when we make our requests, we can be sure that he will give us what we ask for. 1 John 5:14-15 (NLT)
3. Praying ignorantly will hinder our faith.
And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:3 (NLT)
III. Building a dynamic faith enables us to serve God
I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.
Mark 11:23 (NLT)
1. Learn the scriptures and how they can prepare you.
16All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. 17It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Tim. 3:15-17 (NLT)
2. Remember that faith pleases God.
So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Heb. 11:6 (NLT)
3. You must step out in faith.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor. 5:7 (NKJV)
In dynamic faith you are lifted out of your natural fear into supernatural trust in God.
What is faith?
What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.
Heb. 11:1 (NLT)
What is dynamic faith?
I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.
Mark 11:23 (NLT)
Dynamic faith goes beyond salvation and beyond daily living by faith. Dynamic faith is when God does the miraculous for you because you have dynamic faith in him.
