As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright. "Have you seen the giant?" the men asked, "He comes out each day to defy Israel.... (1Sam 17: 24-25a NLT).

HAVE YOU SEEN THE GIANT?

Goliath was a physical giant. He stood 9 feet tall and terrified the army of Israel. Everyday, for forty days, he came out to defy Israel and God. No one could withstand him, not even the King of Israel. They all ran away whenever he showed up. The first question the soldiers asked David when he came to the camp was, "Have you seen the giant?" It was quite evident that they were in awe of Goliath.

WHO/WHAT IS A GIANT?

A giant is a huge person or thing. It can also be classified as an impossible problem. A situation or challenge that makes one afraid or terrified. The red sea was a huge challege for the children of Israel. It was a giant before them. When people tell you, it is impossible; they see a giant in front of you. Have you seen the giant?

Many of us are facing huge problems and diffulties that have been taunting us for years without apparent solutions in sight. We are afraid. We are terrified. We see the giants laughing at us, asking: Where is your God? Barrenness, fruitless labour, long delays, stagnation, incurable diseases, etc are giants that defy us daily.

SPIRITUAL GIANTS

Yes, physical giants can be terrifying, but they are not comparable to spiritual giants. Goliath trusted in his physical strength and his gods (1 Sam 17:43). Indeed, the challenges we face have their foundations in the spiritual realm, fermented by Satan and his demons. They are instigated by Principalities and Powers, Spiritual wickedness in high places (Eph 6:12). These are the spiritual giants behind the challenges and troubles tormenting humanity. Goliath was not alone, the gods of the Philistines were behind him. He trusted in them that is why he cursed David with his gods.

Do you know that the God we serve is the head of all principalities and powers? He created them. (Col 1:16). When he came to the earth in the form of man, he triumphed over them and publicly disgraced and humiliated them (Col 2:15). Do you also know that he has given you power and authority over these principalities and powers (Luke 10:19).

GOD IS THE GREATEST GIANT

These giants and their spiritual backers are so small when compared to the Almighty God. Isaiah 66:1 tells us that the heaven is the throne of God and the earth is his footstool. Can you measure the distance from heaven to earth? God fills the heavens and the earth and there is no giant that can be compared to him. He is bigger than all the giants of the world put together.

YOU ARE A SPIRITUAL GIANT

Rom 8:11 says the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the died lives in you.

1 John 4:4 tells us that greater is he that in you than he that is in the world.

Rom 8:31, 37-39 says nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God... in all things we are more than conquerors.

Phil 2:9-11 assures us that we have a name above all names. The name to which all other names must bow.

All these scriptures point to the fact that though we may be small physically, but we are spiritually giants in Christ. So who or what is that giant that can stand before you to challenge you or the God that you serve - the creator of all things; the one who controls all powers in heaven, on earth and under the earth (Matt 28:18).

No matter how big your adversary is, no matter how mighty the circumstances you face are, you are bigger than them.

HOW TO CONQUER YOUR GIANT?

1. Recognize that it is a spiritual battle between your God and the gods of your adversary. David recognized this and conquered his giant (1Sam 17:43,45).

2. Do not fight spiritual battles with physical armours. Use the sword of the Spirit - the word of God. David did this successfully. (1Sam 17: 38-39, 45-47).

3. Talk like a spiritual giant. Walk like a spiritual giant. When others were afraid and running away from Goliath, David ran toward the giant speaking like a spiritual giant (1 Sam 17:48).

When we confront our giants with the sword of the Spirit, they will fall like Goliath. David cut off Goliath ' s head and the giant never rose up again.

THE BATTLE IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM IS ALREADY WON

When the ark of God was placed in the house Dagon, the god of the Philistines, the people woke up to discover that Dagon fell down before the ark of God; with his head and limbs cut off (1 Sam 5: 2-4).
