Summary: You may be wrestling with the wrong person.
Have you ever wrested with the Lord?
Gen.3224 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Jacob wrestling with the Lord.
Many times God wants to bless us bu t can not because we fight him.
1. Our prayer is a struggle .
We find our selves in the hands of power we can’t understand.
We want to argue with him.
We want to know more about him.
2. Many time it desperate struggle.
A very lonely struggle because we are alone.
Matt.6: 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
We with draw from the wold.
Our desires of the heart are unknown except God.
3. It is a desperate struggle.
The angel saw he could not prevail against him.
We have that spark of divinity in us.
We try to match the Lord but can’t.
4. Our prayer is very revealing.
When we wrestle with the Lord he will win every time.
Our weakness is brought to light.
31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
5. Prayer is a persistent struggle.
Jacob said let me go.
The angel said i will not.
We are weak we can cling to the Lord as Jacob did.
6. We can have victory if we hang on to the Lord.
Jacob said I will not let go till you bless me.
He became a new man ( a Prince With God)
God changed his name there to Israel .
Changed character. Old things became new.
All things were becoming new.
God revealed himself to him.
In our earnest prayer we see God throught faith.
2nd Cor.3: 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
